From everyday resource efficiency to large circular projects: the Kronoberg Region in Sweden is participating in the Interreg Circular Trust Building project to promote a more circular construction industry and increase the reuse of building materials on all levels. Recyling and reuse are already deeply embedded in the region's daily operations. A great example is that of Växjö Central Hospital, for instance, where on-site facilities and in-house expertise enables efficient repairs and maintenance, so that saving resources and extending the lifespan of equipment has become second nature. During renovations, #reusablematerials are inventoried and labeled while standardized colours and designs across all facilities ensures that these materials fit seamlessly at different locations. Beyond environmental advantages, recycling is also cost-effective. Of course there are still some challenges in terms of rising quality and regulatory standards, and the general perception of recycled materials. Looking ahead, Interreg Circular Trust Building project offers Region Kronoberg and GodaHus an opportunity to elevate recycling efforts further and provide more valuable insights, particularly in the area of procurement. We spotted this insightful article from Clean Energy Wire on reused and recycled buildings challenging the status quo of wasteful construction. Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) empower architects and designers with the data to determine which part of their project is the most resource and energy intensive. To significantly enhance building sustainability and reduce embodied carbon, construction can leverage circular economy principles. This includes prioritising LCAs to maximise material use before end-of-life reuse or recycling. 🏡 Building a sustainable home, one innovation at a time! 🌍 Home is where the heart is. But big environmental footprints are often lurking in houses and buildings too. The construction sector uses a large volume of the planet’s resources, while also generating a high amount of waste and CO2 emissions. In this video, Kimberly Simancas, Head of Sustainability for Henkel Construction Adhesives, highlights how our solutions are enabling the transformation of the construction industry. From advanced insulation systems that reduce energy consumption to solar-reflective coatings for roofs and bio-based adhesives for timber laminates, our innovations enable significant reductions in CO₂ emissions and energy use—without compromising performance, durability, or design. Why Modular Construction Might Just Be Europe's Best Kept Green Secret 🌍 What if I told you that building sustainably doesn’t mean sacrificing efficiency? In Europe, modular construction isn’t just “building differently”—it’s a game-changer for sustainability, efficiency, and green design. 1/ Waste Less, Build More – Imagine a construction site with virtually no waste. In a factory, we measure, cut, and fit materials with surgeon-like precision, so every piece counts, and leftovers go back into the mix, not the landfill. 2/ Energy Efficiency on Autopilot – Factory-built modules come pre-fitted with high-performance insulation, energy-saving windows, and other green tech, making them a powerhouse of energy efficiency straight from assembly. 3/ Less CO₂ in Every Step – Modular construction is swift and strategic, so fewer trucks on the road, less machinery grinding away on-site, and significantly fewer emissions. We’re building structures that don’t just save energy—they reduce their own footprint from day one. 4/ Built to Last, Adapt, or Relocate – Flexibility is built into each module. These units can be disassembled, moved, or adapted, making them perfect for a circular economy that values evolution over replacement. 5/ Certified Green from the Get-Go – Meeting Europe’s green building standards like BREEAM and LEED isn’t just achievable; it’s practically baked in with modular construction. Precision leads to compliance, turning sustainability from a goal into a given. So here’s the twist: by embracing modular, Europe isn’t just saving time or money. It’s setting a whole new standard for what “green building” can mean. P.S. Follow me for more on why modular might just be the future of sustainable construction in Europe! #ModularConstruction #Sustainable #Construction #SustainableConstruction
