Highly stretchable, robust, and resilient wearable electronics for remote, autonomous plant growth monitoring by Ying Diao & co-workers Link (OA): https://lnkd.in/gtmWfhaU The bigger picture: Plant growth facilities such as greenhouses, plant chambers, and freight farms provide effective and efficient solutions to terrestrial all-year-round food production and extraterrestrial agriculture to support long-term space missions. Yet, the direct and precise measurement of plant growth in these facilities with minimal human intervention remains challenging. Current methods for measuring plant growth are laborious or destructive, including cutting, drying, and weighing plant tissues. On the other hand, plant tracking technologies using camera imaging usually require bulky and costly instrumentation and infrastructure. Wearable strain sensors can help address this issue due to their flexibility, surface conformability, and compatibility with automation systems. Combining device engineering with wireless technology, we achieve remote, autonomous tracking of plant growth that unveils the sensitivity of leaf elongation to light/dark cycles challenging to obtain using other methods. #flexibleelectronics #wearables #plantscience #plantgrowth #agriculture
