The TechNExt Main Stage is the beating heart of our tech festival, where innovation, inspiration and industry insights combine. Let's hear from Jamie Hardesty, Director of Communications and Ecosystems Development, who is the host for the event. 🗣️ What is the Main Stage event at TechNExt24? "Taking place in Newcastle's Stephenson Quarter, we have a day of thought-provoking keynotes from those at the forefront of tech innovation. This year's theme is ‘Tech with Purpose’, expect to learn something new, have fun and leave buzzing with ideas!" 🗣️ What are some of the key themes or topics that will be highlighted? "We have seven speakers in total, covering a breadth of topics, all linked through the positive, impactful and game-changing work they do via creating and experimenting with technology! Speakers will cover topics from inventing products to innovating in industries like healthcare, sport and science, we'll talk about sustainable, inclusive and passionate approaches to harnessing technology to change the world." 🗣️ What are you most looking forward to at TechNExt, aside from your hosting duties? "I've been doing our speaker briefings so far this week, so I'm very excited to see their talks after getting a taste. I'm also looking forward to seeing the North East tech community come together, whilst welcoming new people to the tech sector, it’s going to be a great week!" 🗣️ How do you see TechNExt influencing the future of tech in the North East? "We launched TechNExt to strengthen what we have in the region, technology-wise. The festival can help bring people together, championing and celebrating the successes and opportunities which exist in North East tech. We're a small region but we still have a job to do in co-ordinating sector activity and amplifying our credentials. We had a great first year in 2023, I'm excited to go bigger this year." Many people have an interest in tech because of the employment sustainability this field usually has, I can tell you that was my number one reason😀 and then the passion for it too. However, just like with most other specialized positions, you usually must have the experience to earn a good position in tech. So I asked a friend who is already into tech how I can go about it. He told me 3 things: 1. Engage in self-learning 2. Get a certified degree 3. Lastly, network with people of like minds and tech professionals. Do good, be good 💚 There are so many inspiring stories across our region. Both projects and individuals doing excellent things, using digital technology to generate positive outcomes for our people and planet. These are the ‘Champions’ of our region and as an organisation, Tech4Good South West wants to shine a light on this amazing work! We are thrilled to announce the launch of the brand-new tech for good recognition showcase, spotlighting the change makers making a positive social impact across the region through the power of tech. This showcase recognises people, teams, projects and organisations from across the South West for their tech for good achievements. These are our Tech4Good South West Champions! Anyone can get involved on behalf of their chosen champion and the first round of the initiative is now open to nominations on the site (https://lnkd.in/exh98YkM) We are looking for organisations and individuals who are utilising digital technology as a force for good in the world, creating equal opportunities for all to thrive. 📣 “Embarrassment is the cost of entry.” 📣 I’ve always hesitated to share our journey of building Connektd – mainly due to the fear of what people might think, and even worse, the fear of failing in front of everyone. But very wise friend Funmi George sent me a quote that really struck a chord: “Embarrassment is the cost of entry.” And wow, did that hit home. I realized that keeping my #journey to myself would only hold me back in so many ways, and honestly, what’s the worst that could happen? So to all you students, recent grads, and folks doing cool stuff who are hesitant to share your journey online – take this as your sign. The biggest flex is to try – loudly and unapologetically. So, without further ado, here’s what we’ve been up to over the past 2 months at Connektd: Kendra Garagan and I became hellbent on solving one of the biggest problems we both faced – finding meaningful #workopportunities for career explorers and the right #talent for businesses, while giving back through mentorship. We realized others struggled with the same problem, and now we’re on a mission to empower individuals to find fulfilling #careers and help businesses thrive with the right talent. It’s only been two months, and we’ve already grown our community to 60+ members of ambitious career explorers and passionate industry leaders!
