Reflecting on an inspiring #LATechWeek, I feel energized by the incredible people I met—founders, investors, and technologists working at the forefront of innovation in cleantech, deeptech, and spacetech. 🚀 LA is a hotbed for technology development in these areas, sparking new interests for me. 💥 The week was packed with valuable insights that I’m excited to apply moving forward. Top takeaways include: * From Scale10x, I learned the importance of focusing on increasing competitive advantage over aggressive growth. * The relative benefits of joining a studio, incubator, or accelerator, and how and when to apply for each at the Venture Leaders Meetup. * In the "How to Raise a Round" session, I gained new perspectives on when VC funding is the right option and tips on how to approach investors. * Learning about alternative financing methods like venture debt and crowd-funding, which provide additional pathways to capital for startups. * The inspiring discussions at “Electrifying the Future” on how securing cleantech opportunities locally can drive job growth and create positive economic and environmental impacts in disadvantaged communities. 💼🌍 I'm grateful for the many new connections I made throughout the week, including Evan Tsang, Sarah Thiele, Bill B., and Molly Crete, who enriched the events and illuminated new paths to explore. I have noticed most of the early stage founders make this mistake while pitching I see lot of Founders being carried away and wasting half of their time alloted for Presentation leaving very less time to talk about their core "Product" or "Tech" or "Innovation" Two slides that founders focus alot on are : 1. Problem and Solution Slides 2. Market Size A piece of advice from my side would be as an early stage startup, if you havent captured a good percentage of market share or unless you have a clear Go-to-Market Strategy to capture say atleast 5% of the total market share, then you should not spend too much time explaining the TAM, SAM and SOM. You can just put in a slide nicely but not spend time describing it during the presentation. Similarly problems and solutions also should be presented well in the deck but you can cut it short during your personal presentation. This is because when you talk about your sector say Solar, EV, Fin-tech, AI, or Ed-tech ; most seasoned investors would be aware about the problems and solutions addressed.
