Digitalising Public Services to Increase Accessibility 👵🏽 In an opinion piece published by the Khazanah Research Institute, Rachel Gong lauds the Malaysian government’s efforts at digitalising public service in line with commitment to a digital-first public sector, but also highlighted the need to simplify tech and processes in these efforts so as to ensure accessibility and inclusion of all, especially seniors. She also suggested two ways this can be done — using single sign-ons to access digital public services and developing mobile-friendly websites to complement mobile apps. 🖥️ In the same vein, more can be done in the private sector to increase accessibility and inclusion for the public benefit. More specifically, Tech For Good Institute’s ‘Leveraging Digital Platforms for Public Benefit’ report outlines how digital platforms can streamline processes and prioritise inclusion to drive collective good. 🚀 Swipe through the slides or check out the reports to find out more about encouraging accessibility, inclusion and equity for both public services and digital platforms! ➡️ [KRI: Simplify systems to make digital public services easier to use] https://lnkd.in/gvEHsN2K [TFGI: Leveraging Digital Platforms for Public Benefit] https://lnkd.in/gwW6iFQf #TechForGood #PublicGood #PublicBenefit #Digitalisation #DigitalTransformation #Malaysia #SoutheastAsia #Inclusivity #Accessibility

We have published a new research paper: "Dual verifications in mHealth apps: Supporting self-regulation or increasing friction?" by KyungPyo Kang & JaeHong Park, Kyung Hee University, South Korea. https://lnkd.in/d7tz5zeQ Abstract Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) are widely used for supporting individuals in achieving health-related goals. While various strategies such as reminders and financial incentives have been explored, the impact of verification systems on goal achievement remains understudied, particularly in the context of mHealth apps. This study investigates the effects of a dual verification system on goal outcomes, which require users to submit proof photos before and after activities. Using a difference-in-differences (DID) with matching technique, we examine whether increased verification steps hinder users’ commitment to self-development goals. Drawing upon friction theory, our findings suggest that implementing a dual verification system negatively influences goal achievement rates due to increased friction. Moreover, we find that the effect varies based on users’ engagement patterns and deposit amounts. Our study contributes to understand the effects of verification systems on users’ goal achievement and provides practical insights for designing personalized verification strategies in mHealth apps. #InformationSystems #mHealth #DigitalHealth #SelfImprovement #VerificationMethod #Regularity #Exercise #GoalAchievement #Friction #eHealth

In a recent collaboration with An Coimisiún Toghcháin, The Electoral Commission, we developed two innovative applications (available in both English and Irish) designed to help the public identify their constituencies in advance of the upcoming General Election. Using the Lookup Instant App, the apps were delivered in record time! ⏱️ The Electoral Commission emphasized the importance of accessibility, compatibility across different browsers and devices, scalability, and seamless integration of their branding. Kudos to Philip Thompson, Schalk Van Lill, Antonia Blankenberg, Adam Corcoran, and John Hewitt for their outstanding work in meeting these requirements! 👏👏 English language version: https://lnkd.in/erbZJeZ9 Irish language version: https://lnkd.in/eWbCRKaN Story reported by RTE: https://lnkd.in/e-TCJ_Tb #GeneralElection2024 #Innovation #TeamWork #TechForGood #Accessibility #Ireland

Singapore to spend extra S$1 billion on safer streets and improving first- and last-mile connectivity - CNA (channelnewsasia.com) Whether it is a convergence of like-minded ideas, or some government decision-maker is following our 'small cry' for safer streets in Singapore all these years... well, it is certainly comforting news that there's actually a sizable S$1 Billion budget to improve our streets! Don't get me wrong. The quality of roads and streets in Singapore are much better if compared to other cities, but more can be done. I hope part of the budget will be spent on 'software' like shifting mindsets to prioritize vulnerable road users over vehicles, and pragmatically adopting (and enforcing!) lower speeds (30kmph) on at least local streets. As an Engineer and a Transport Planner, I look forward to how safer streets will be the placemaking catalyst for more Life and Activities; Vibrancy and Opportunities! 😉
