#Coaches I’m curious about your thoughts! In our school, we’re trialing a coaching format where eliciting information from the coachee is limited to 15 minutes. Do you think this is enough time, or does it feel too rushed? Additionally, we’ve set specific observation targets when observing the coachee. Would this still be considered true coaching, or does it lean more toward a directive approach? How do you approach instructional coaching and maintain balance?

Two people thinking together - effective coaching almost always involves reflection
Improving teaching effectiveness and student outcomes through research-based instructional coaching and professional development worldwide.
There are 3 types of coaching: directive, facilitative, & dialogical. In my 25 years of research with Instructional Coaching Group, I have found that dialogical coaching is the most effective. Facilitative and directive coaching both involve conversation, but they do not involve dialogue. Instructional Coaching: The First 90 Days illustrates how to take a dialogical approach to coaching. When coaches begin their work by doing what they "think coaching is" versus being trained on coaching strategies and how to work with teachers, to name a few, they create resistant teachers and give coaching a bad rep. This not only drives teachers away but makes it harder to advocate for the success of instructional coaching. #instructionalcoaching #coachingdosanddonts
