My eyes were lit up in shock with my mouth dropping at different intervals while watching this video (I watched others under this series too, same reaction) This is not because I have not seen ridiculous marketing job openings before. I really can never get used to it. While I have expressed my shock (hopefully well enough), It is worthy of mention that marketing professionals need to be more vocal and clear about the marketing industry JD dynamics. Can one person be versatile enough to possess a good number of skills? Yes. Do you need to possess a good number of skills to be invaluable in our industry? Yes. Minus the burnout and incoming competence-questioning against the professional, Is it recommended for a business to expect one individual to carry out a handful of SPECIALIZED skillsets? No. Your brand will suffer for it. Get a team or lower your expectations. Thank you Keron Rose for this series; our eyes can’t be opened enough.

Companies Are Wilding...Massy 😢. - Content Creator - Graphics, Videos, Animations, Copywriter (All very specialized skills) - Email Marketing specialist - Social Media Manager - Website Management - SEO Specialist - Paid Ads Specialist - Data and Analytics specialist - For added razzle dazzle...They want you to speak Spanish too Now...it doesn't get as big as Massy...so you can't tell me Massy Doesn't have HR, Massy doesn't have money or resources for consultants... All this shows...is that Massy doesn't know the value of these skills and how all of these skills work. I'd be okay with at least 3-5 people to cover these skills and nobody can say Massy doesn't have the budget... We are reminded every quarter about just how much money they make. When the biggest companies are doing this...there is very little hope for marketers looking for a good Job to put their skills to use. Is anyone else navigating the job market right now? Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that many marketing-related job descriptions include a broad range of responsibilities, often extending beyond what the title might suggest. While being versatile certainly has its advantages, companies can often achieve more focused and impactful results by dividing responsibilities among specialized roles. Here are 8️⃣ examples of these roles: 📷 Social Media Content Creator: Crafts engaging content tailored for social media platforms—images, videos, and posts that enhance online presence. 📊 Digital Marketing Strategist: Analyzes data and manages paid campaigns to refine strategies, ensuring the brand reaches the right audience. 📝 Copywriter: Creates compelling and persuasive copy for ads, websites, social media, and other materials to clearly communicate the brand’s message. 🎨 Graphic Design Specialist: Designs visually appealing graphics that align with the brand, elevating both online and offline marketing efforts. 📖 Marketing Coordinator: Manages and executes marketing campaigns, ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all channels. 💻 Social Media Manager: Oversees social media strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement across platforms to grow online presence. 📢 PR/Communications Specialist: Shapes the brand’s public image and manages media relations, ensuring the business is perceived positively by the public and the press. 🔍 SEO/SEM Specialist: Optimizes website content, conducts keyword research, and manages paid search campaigns to improve search engine rankings, drive organic traffic, and increase visibility. To all my fellow #jobseekers, there’s value in being versatile, but it’s equally important to recognize the significance of specialized skills.

I think it’s impossible for anyone single person to cover all these roles no matter the size of an organization. When starting out I completely agree with hiring a generalist to help you get things moving. But as your business grow (especially to the size of a “Massy”) you must realize that you now need specialist to aid your efforts. A lot of companies underestimate the value in marketing and think it’s just posting some pictures and videos here and there, oh and keeping up with trends. I assure it’s much deeper than that. Business Development, marketing and sales should all work hand in hand to facilitate growth of a company. And if you’re not growing then something is wrong and you need to switch gears.

If you want to hire a 'jack of all trades' marketer, you are asking for: - Product Marketer - Content Strategist - Demand Gen - SEO Specialist - Email Marketer - PR Manager - Brand Manager - Copywriter - Graphic Designer - + more The reality of finding someone who will be great at all of these things is very slim. If you are only looking to hire ONE marketer for your company, you first need to narrow down what your top marketing needs are, and what lower-priority things you are willing to bend on. You can find someone who is good at those top needs with the ability to either learn or outsource the other needs.

PSA to all digital marketing.jobs Hire a team because humans are not AI. We can not do every creative task for one job. There are social media jobs asking people to be videographers. There are even asking for SEO tasks. There are copywriting jobs asking for graphic design. They work together not simultaneously and NEVER as a one person job.
