Most personal brands fail because they get caught in one of two traps: 1) Blend in with the crowd (too similar) 2) Reject the crowd (too different) Most beginners fall into the first trap. They do what everyone else is doing—copy their ideas, hooks, and brand values. No one notices them. They get stuck in the sea of sameness. I, myself, fell into the second trap—ignoring others ideas, hooks, and resonant brand values. I became so different that I lost relatability and alienated my dream audience. The truth: Personal branding isn’t about copying or rebelling. It’s about finding that balance where you can be authentically YOU. Be both uniquely you and highly relatable. When you show up as your true self while staying relevant to your audience’s needs, real growth follows. -- Enjoy this? ♻️ Repost it to inspire a friend and follow Taylin Simmonds for more. -- PS. People can copy the business model but they mistakenly copy other personality too
See what's working. Use it. But add your personality as well.
YOU are the niche YOU are the hook YOU are the brand No hacks required
100% Taylin. You could even map this out as a Venn Diagram for yourself. 1/ What works: What's proven? What does the crowd like and do? 2/ What's you: What are you bringing that's relatable, that no one/few have? Map that out for yourself. That's a nice, 5 minute, write-your-brand-on-a-napkin exercise right there.
In today's world, with video cameras in everyones' pocket, you need to be authentic in your brand. If you show one thing in your official content, but you're something entirely different in the real world, someone with a smartphone will eventually catch you. You need to be authentic, but in a way that will still drive success.
Such a powerful reminder. Finding that sweet spot between authenticity and relatability is key. It’s not about copying or rejecting the crowd, it’s about carving out your unique space while staying connected to your audience’s needs.
I call this the niche spectrum. If you go too broad, you become generic and if you go too specific, no one really understands you. Finding balance is crucial and the best to do it is to do systematic experimentation. Write for different areas of niche spectrum and with time, you'll calibrate to that sweet spot. (This will take time, so get used to those flop posts haha)
I agree strongly with you, Taylin your personal brand should be authentic and stand you out it's not about forcing yourself to stand out - it's all about being you when you become yourself, you automatically stand out
Authenticity is essential, but relevance to your audience is what helps you grow. It’s all about being yourself while still meeting their needs.

12hA vulnerable confession: My trap was caused by too much ego. Aiming to be 'better' than my competition caused me to lose the competition.
