I enjoy an hour-long commute each morning and usually listen to articles and required readings during this window of time. This week, however, I discovered that my articles were missing from my phone app (cue minor freakout), though thankfully still on my laptop. I took this as a sign to listen to something fresh. I chose Adam Grant's Re: Thinking podcast on overcoming overconfidence. Having a very loud family, I was thrust into confidence by sheer need to be heard as an introspective and often quiet child; so, I pondered a deeper explanation of the Dunning-Kruger effect from founder and psychologist, Dr. David Dunning, himself. As I listened, a moment of clarity came to me as I realized many of my overconfident moments spring from a willingness to be wrong and the learning opportunity from it. Some of these moments highlight wonderful periods of experiential learning throughout my career, but many times these lessons occurred in work environments where I did not have the psychological safety to show my full breadth of insight into my lack of competency in those moments. This is one of the reasons I advocate normalizing mistakes in workplaces, to showcase their learning potential, and model behavior that invites others to help support failing safely in these environments. #StopTheBlameGame #LearningThroughMistakes #BuildingTrust #Transparency #Support #UMDIOChallenge

I revealed my personal details! 🤯 😮 The first (ever) podcast took place recently with the delightful Nicola Huxley 🎙️ 🎤 (Sphere Financial Services Ltd) I didn't expect it, but something unexpected happened. 🤔 💡 To set the scene I explained my pathway through corporate roles, what it taught, and how I could 'employ' it (pun intended). But relaxing my guard, I described fragments of what led me to find my 'Life's Purpose', along with the incredible value it brings. Ironically, I reassure my clients of 'Confidentiality Agreements', 'Code of Conduct' and 'Code of Practice'.....there was I, exposing my deepest personal thoughts to scrutiny. 🧐 - Revealing to an unknown audience. ❗ ❓ What have you done, that was liberating or cathartic, recently? ❓ ❓ What have you learned about yourself? ❓ When your life is harder than it should be, you'll benefit from guidance and support. I help you gain control of thoughts and life's direction. Seeking? Suffering?....Resolve? ☎️ Call 07834 569019 for a chat. ☎️ ? I want to talk to you about suicide and how work and life stress drives good people to think this is an option. After hours, days, weeks, and months in the relentless pursuit of nearly impossible goals in his career my beautiful husband chose this path. I found him in our garage in the middle of the night. The shock of that night and the broken reality that followed became a catalyst for me to seek any way I could to prevent this from happening to any other family, or any other person. I knew, even then, that his decision was an emotional response to his fear of failure and the future. The ruthless, mentally crippling pursuit of corporate achievement was allowed to flourish because of the positive results it brought the company. Whether out of ignorance or willfully, my husband's professional environment created a culture that made it possible for him to literally work himself to death. Now I speak to groups, large and small, about humane leadership and culture change. I share my story via my podcast and through storytelling, workshops and conversational reflection. I am encouraged that many leaders, including those at my husband's company, want to do better. They want their workforce to be safe physically and mentally. And many are allocating time and resources to change the culture of the workplace by small and large means. This is good news. I spent a good portion of my career in the Oil and Gas industry helping big companies implement large-scale strategic and tactical change. Because of experience I recognize the challenges inherent in high-stress workplaces and I know how hard it is to make meaningful changes. I want to help leaders recognize and rectify workplace conditions that can create unsafe mental health working conditions. I can help you do that. https://lnkd.in/giGfM4Jw

𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴. This sentence from my doctor stuck with me. At first, I was taken aback, in disbelief that someone in the medical profession would say such a thing. After all, aren’t doctors supposed to have their health—and everything else—together? (No offense to the amazing doctors out there, we appreciate you!) But then it hit me: She wasn’t just talking about medical knowledge. She was talking about how even experts, like doctors, can struggle with practicing what they preach. And honestly, I was no different... When I first started as a confidence coach, I wasn’t living up to the confidence I was teaching. I was holding back a lot and had some limiting beliefs stemming from my childhood that were keeping me small. It felt like I had all the tools to help others, but I wasn’t fully embodying them myself.. That is when I decided to put myself out there more! I began showing up more authentically—more podcasts, more visibility, more engagement with my audience. And perhaps the hardest part, I started to be more vulnerable, sharing parts of my story I had kept locked away for years... And guess what? It worked. The more I embraced the confidence I teach, the more aligned I became, and the results followed. This is what true confidence looks like: it's not just about what you say, but how you live. It’s about embodiment—becoming the person you aspire to be. P.S. If you’re feeling ready to step into a more confident version of yourself, I’d be happy to share a 4-step process that’s helped introverted leaders unlock their natural confidence and charisma without feeling like an imposter. Let’s chat for 30 minutes—no cost, just value. I’ve got a few spots early next week. The time to embody confidence is now! The whole summary I can give only this: Slow productivity with three principles as - Do fewer things at the same time - Work at a more natural pace - Obsessing over the quality of what you do Overload makes things hard to do actual work. As “Hollywood’s expert on everything” in my weekly “Dear Remy” column for The Hollywood Reporter… I’ve been counseling a diverse array of individuals facing unique challenges, with letters edited by Sarah Mills Recently, I’ve given advice to: 😱 An executive battling with the unreasonable demands of a celebrity boss. 📚 A sci-fi filmmaker battling with fan criticism of his films’ scientific accuracy. 🤖 An actor confronting the unsettling reality of their voice being used by AI without consent. I’ve also had the privilege of counseling… 🏆 A veteran writer lamenting decades of Emmy snubs and wondering if her time will ever come. 🎥 A producer grappling with the fallout of another box office flop. 👻 A TV writer facing guilt as viewers attempt to identify real-life inspirations for his characters The list goes on, and so does my column. Bottom line is… Over the last 4 months that I’ve been writing the column, the experience has really broadened my scope. My life, coaching high achievers in media, often has me focusing on common themes: • How do I define my niche? • How do I master a fearless mindset? • How do I give clients the confidence they need? Each day brings new challenges, and one thing remains constant: The incredible resilience and creativity of those I coach. 🌟If you are high-achiever in media who need support to reach their next career milestone, DM me “STAR” to schedule an in-depth discovery session with me today. And I will link to the column in the comments.
