Reflections from a would-be Impresario on the 2nd Social Work Wealth Conference:
This time last year, the SW WealthCON team & I were just getting ready to launch the first-ever Social Work Wealth Conference from the ground up.
It was 100% virtual and, despite early (and later) setbacks, a success by meager measures for a bootstrapped inaugural event.
With the incomparable @sethgodin as our confirmed speaker for 2024, we once again began planning thinking that, because we already had one under our belt, it'd be easier.
(...and perhaps it would have been had someone not insisted on in-person and online components.)
Now just two weeks away from our 2nd event and the planning hasn't slowed down. Sure, it's a lot of work, but every step, every late-night brainstorming session, and every conversation with speakers and attendees has made it worth it.
As social workers, we’re taught to give, to serve, and to care deeply about others. But what happens when we turn that care inward? When we focus on our own financial health and empowerment, we’re not only able to serve others better, but we also position ourselves to build legacies and secure futures for our loved ones and the causes, communities, and clients we care most about.
That’s the heartbeat of this conference. I wanted to create a space where social workers and helping professionals can **talk about money**—out loud, without fear, without shame. After months of planning, organizing, and bringing together amazing minds in business, finance, and social work, I can proudly say we’ve created something truly special.
Working on this conference has reminded me why financial literacy and empowerment are so critical to our field. It’s not just about earning more—it’s about giving ourselves permission to build wealth and make an impact in ways we never thought possible.
To everyone who has supported, collaborated, or simply shared words of encouragement throughout this journey, thank you. I can’t wait to see what this conference brings—because I truly believe we’re just getting started.
