I've spoken to some of the top design agencies/studios globally and across Australia. Here's 3 big insights that I can share with other agency designers or those looking to work agency side. Creativity is super important to them, but what does that mean? 1️⃣ Future state thinking (strategic design skills) 2️⃣ Strong craft skills (UI skills) 3️⃣ Being able to deliver quickly and efficiently Why is this? Well established design agencies/consultancies are exploring new ventures and need people that can think future state as well as have the UI skills to craft beautiful things. Smaller design studios/agencies are building themselves out so need designers that can help them compete with the larger companies. Is there anything else I've missed? #latitudeit #uxui #designagency

Hello designers. I had a conversation yesterday that led to this post. It was with a UX designer with 13 years of experience who has seen the market changing significantly over the last few years with an impact on financial steadiness and certainty about the future. The outstanding question was along the lines of: what direction shall I take to continue doing what I love doing successfully? I woke up with this Q in my mind today and with thoughts on an approach to take to answer this question. And, surprise surprise, it’d involve design thinking. I thought I’d post this to see if anyone who is a designer - Product & Brand primarily - or who is involved closely in the design process feels this question close to their heart to and is open to an eventual exchange of thoughts. Why do I care? Well, I might have left the word of agencies as CS lead but my heart has never left the world of creativity. My twenty years in that world have been the biggest blessing and biggest curse. But the blessing wins. I had the chance to meet real friends, to work (my as* off) while being myself, sometimes at my very worst due to the pressure but still by being me. I had fun. I learnt what winning and failing means. I learnt so much about human behaviour and collaboration and creative process. I am a still a big fan of so much of it, minus the stuff that has ruined it for everyone and that I won’t go into in this post as it isn’t about that. So, yeah, I care because I think it’s a profession that deserve existing and thriving simply because it means true passion and true living for many who have chosen it and I am all about that: living successfully true lives. So this Q ladders up to my purpose and I can’t look away. DM me if this post talks to you. #design #futureofdesign

💡 Key traits of a multidisciplinary designer: Versatility: They can move between graphic design, UX/UI, branding, motion graphics, and even creative strategy with ease. Curiosity: They constantly learn new tools and trends, staying at the forefront of design innovation. Problem-solving: With a broad skill set, they’re equipped to tackle challenges from multiple perspectives. Collaboration: They often act as bridges, uniting specialists across disciplines to create cohesive results. 🚀 Why are multidisciplinary designers essential? In today’s world, industries overlap, and projects often require skills from more than one domain. Multidisciplinary designers bring a holistic approach, ensuring that: Branding aligns with user experience. Design communicates effectively across digital, print, and interactive platforms. Solutions are innovative, adaptable, and future-proof. 🌟 A day in the life of a multidisciplinary designer might look like this: Designing a sleek UI for a mobile app in the morning. Refining a brand’s visual identity in the afternoon. Creating motion graphics to elevate a product launch in the evening. ✨ At its core, being multidisciplinary isn’t just about having multiple skills—it’s about the ability to see the big picture and connect the dots in ways others might not. To my network: Are you or do you work with multidisciplinary designers? How does this approach enhance your projects? Let’s share insights and celebrate the power of multidimensional creativity! 🙌 #MultidisciplinaryDesigner #DesignInnovation #CreativeProblemSolving #jaffarnisar #design #art

5 things I would change if I could start my design career all over again. - Stop idolising tools and focus more on the craft. 🙊 - Ditch the 'UX Designer' attitude and jump into any type of design work. Design thinking is universal. 💫 - Ignore design trends & rely on timeless principles. (Remember glassmorphism, neomorphism?) - Understand the business impact sooner. Because design ain't just art; its business. 🤑 - More networking, less perfecting: The real growth happened outside. Networking with people. Showing my work. Talking to clients. Building relationships. 😇 #uxdesigner #freelance #mistakes #career #uiux

In the year 2000, amidst the evolving landscape of technology, I embarked on my formal journey in computers—an era when computers resembled relics of the past. Returning from boarding school in the Waikato to the bustling streets of Auckland CBD, I was brimming with determination to pursue my aspirations of becoming an Art Director at the then very famous Saatchi & Saatchi. With a passion for science, computers, and art, I charted a clear path, commencing with Computer Graphic Design at the esteemed National College of Design and Technology. It was here that my affinity for creating and meticulously documenting digital systems ignited, I began to cultivate my skills and love for digital processes. The realm of UX, UI, Page Speed, TTL, Website Analytics and Conversion Rate was starkly different from its contemporary counterpart, with websites lagging far behind in both user experience and interface design featuring pixelated images the top websites included AOL, MSN and Yahoo. No social media websites topping the charts at that stage. We were immersed in hands-on design experiences and the production of printed materials. From crafting CD covers to assembling comprehensive portfolios, every project enriched my understanding of design principles and honed my skills. Looking back, I realise how those foundational experiences laid the groundwork for my journey to where I stand today. While the field of digial design and technology has evolved significantly since then, there remains an ever-present drive for continual innovation and progress. #DigitalDesign #UXUI #DesignEducation #DesignInnovation #TechnologyEvolution #DesignProcess

Hey design enthusiasts and future game-changers! 🎨✨ Ever find yourself puzzled over the myriad paths a #career in #design might take you? Well, ponder no more! I dove into a fascinating discussion to uncover the 8 flavors of design roles that are shaping our visual and interactive world today. From the traditional mastery of #GraphicDesign to the #innovative realms of #GameDesign, there's a niche for every type of creative spirit. 👉 Graphic Designers are the magicians turning type, color, and images into visual stories. 👉 Information Designers are the brainy storytellers who organize chaos into clarity. 👉 Experiential Designers craft spaces that tell tales and evoke feelings. 👉 Interaction Designers weave the fabric of user engagement across digital and physical planes. 👉 User Experience (UX) Designers sculpt the digital landscape to fit human needs like a glove. 👉 User Interface (UI) Designers paint the face of digital interfaces, making them not just functional but fabulous. 👉 Web Designers architect the web's vast expanse, ensuring beauty meets usability. 👉 And Game Designers? They're the dreamers building worlds that captivate and engage. Stuck on which path to tread? Here's a nugget of wisdom: let your strengths, interests, and the types of puzzles you're itching to solve guide you. Remember, no matter the title behind your name, as a designer, you're not just making things pretty—you're solving problems and making the world a better, more navigable place.
