The Coolest Forensic Fact from Iceland I just stumbled across this gem: Iceland's only forensic pathologist, Pétur Guðmannsson, found himself inundated with questions from the country's crime writers. These writers were so eager to get the forensic details right in their stories that Pétur decided to hold a seminar to answer all their burning questions. And guess what? The seminar sold out immediately, so he had to hold another one, which also sold out just as quickly! The story gets even better. Pétur teaches these seminars through the University of Iceland, where he covers everything from estimating time of death to how bodies decompose. One of the crime writers took his course to understand how a body would look after being in an airtight suitcase for three years. Pétur's approach to teaching about death was described as strangely poetic and respectful, making it not just informative but also deeply moving. This got me thinking about the importance of credibility in storytelling. Just like those crime writers wanting their stories to be as realistic as possible, we in the business world need to ensure our narratives are grounded in solid facts. It's all about doing our homework and digging a little deeper. 😊 When you're crafting your next business pitch, marketing plan, or any story really, take a page from Pétur’s book! Double-check your facts, consult the experts, and make sure your story holds up. It’s not just about making it engaging, it’s about building trust with your audience. In the end, the best stories resonate because they’re real. Let’s keep that in mind and make our stories not just compelling, but rock-solid and trustworthy. #Storytelling #ForensicFacts #BusinessCredibility #Inspiration You can dive deeper into this fascinating story here… https://lnkd.in/gnA7RfNi

‘I convince myself I am resilient. I am consuming the trauma just like you, through my screen. But as a journalist and editor, I convince myself that I am a tool, not a person. I'm here to tell stories, not live them. But they live inside my body. Every testimony I publish, every story I edit and re-edit. ‘ https://lnkd.in/gwTgi4M4

Crime series interview - Translator Jamie Bulloch speaks to Sarah Hemens about the Black Forest Investigations series by Oliver Bottini and the joy of translating a good crime novel. About the book: “There are, of course, other fictionalised detectives who are women, and others who battle alcoholism, as Louise does. One of the things that sets this series apart, though, is the Black Forest setting, close to the French border. In turn, this reflects Louise’s own Franco-German heritage. As the series progresses, her German mother and French father, who are separated, each move to the other’s country. The Black Forest setting is one that I have passed through on several occasions, and Bottini has definitely evoked it brilliantly. It all rings so true. Louise is a maverick, relying on her intuition. This thinking outside the box is what gets her ahead in investigative work. It can also mean that she rubs up against more conventionally minded senior colleagues. She’s frustrated by what she sees as secrecy in the upper echelons of the force—a secrecy that, to her mind, borders on corruption. This interplay between the police service and the domestic and international security services provides another interesting aspect to the books. She sees their work as frustrating and thwarting the rule of law.” https://lnkd.in/dHyVpXC4 #BlackForestInvestigations #OliverBottini #CrimeFiction #JamieBulloch #TranslatorLife #CrimeNovelSeries #BookTranslation #CrimeThriller #GermanCrimeFiction #LiteraryTranslation #Freiburg #BookLovers #ThrillerSeries #MysteryBooks #CrimeWriters #InternationalCrime #BottiniSeries #BlackForestCrime #Bookstagram #ReadingCrimeFiction #TranslatedLiterature #FictionInTranslation #ThrillingReads #LiteraryProse #DetectiveStories #BookCommunity #GoodReads #CrimeNovels

NaNoWriMo Update | Day 7 MURDER ON THE MOUNTAIN - Crime Fiction Novel Technically, it is Day 7 of this National Writing Contest but I am behind due to... well, life events. At least, I am trying to write every golden opportunity I get. There are so many intricate roles in this book, that I must do my research (I previously lost two of my FIRE and LE consultants along the way). and figure out what true-to-life scenes would look like. Of course, this is a fictional story based upon some true events occurring. All names, places and some events have been changed to protect the identities of those originally involved. The research includes those in the following professions (does not have to be exact, just looking for a baseline but want more real-life solutions. FIRE: - High angle looks like, Equipment and techniques used. - Medical treatment plan by Medics of finding a DV victim in the field and how the PT is treated before being airlifted to the nearest Trauma Medical Center. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE: - Fire Department role/capabilities - Mutual aid if the scenario needs more manpower & equipment - Traffic stop turned vehicle pursuit into the Park, how do agencies work together? COMMAND POST: MCI - Who would realistically be at the scene in Command 7,567 words of 50,000 words (minimum) Chapters 1-6 (some are not fully written due to research in progress) Starting Chapter 7. #iamwriting #novelwriting #publishedauthor
