During my usual learning escapades, On the management of Early Diagnosis of Cancer for Primary Healthcare Workers, I have constantly encountered BPSS as an integral part of disease management. We have to agree that, forthrightly, in palliative and supportive care, be it in Chronic disease management or end-stage disease management, we must, at all cost, adopt this modality; the BPSS-Biopsychosociospiritual model. What do we mean; Let's dive. The biopsychosocial-spiritual model is a holistic approach to understanding and treating health and illness. It takes into account biological, psychological, social, and spiritual factors that contribute to an individual's well-being. This model recognizes that health is not merely the absence of disease but involves multiple dimensions that interact and influence each other. Enjoy your week.

Shake the windows and rattle the walls! As Amy Jo Hutchinson would say on Capitol Hill this week, it's time to raise awareness for rare diseases. Our journey to Owen receiving his formal PH1 diagnosis took five years, including three years of inpatient and long-term care facilities. Within a 4 month period between 2022 and 2023 alone, he faced acute heart failure requiring surgical intervention, twice. Time is not forgiving for PH1 patients - early intervention and access to life saving medicine is key. Early diagnosis of rare diseases is crucial. It can lead to improved treatment outcomes, prevent complications, provide access to specialized support and resources, offer opportunities for participation in research, enable informed decision-making about care and future planning, and above all, provide hope. Let's help support the need for increased awareness, better screening, and more research to enhance care and treatment for all. From the American Heart Association: "Since 2004, the American Heart Association’s signature women's initiative, Go Red for Women, has addressed the awareness and clinical care gaps of women’s greatest health threat, cardiovascular disease (CVD). We are prepared to meet the evolving needs of women now, and at every age, every stage and every season of their lives as their trusted, relevant source for credible, equitable health solutions." February is American Heart Month, a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. This Heart Month, the CDC's Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) is encouraging women to listen to their hearts and speak up for their health. Women in the United States are experiencing unacceptable and avoidable heart-related illness and death, and nearly half of U.S. women do not recognize that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women.1 DHDSP aims to shed light on this important topic so that women no longer experience delayed recognition, diagnosis, and treatment for cardiac events, such as heart attacks.2 Heart-health disparities specific to women widen and deepen when combined with race, ethnicity, and other social factors.3 We encourage individuals, health care and public health professionals, and our partners to help close the disparities gap.
