While electric vehicle fires grab headlines, the data shows they are statistically less likely to occur than fires in internal combustion engine vehicles. Still, their high-voltage batteries present unique risks and challenges for first responders and environmental safety. Understanding these threats, and planning effective response strategies, allows us to maximize the benefits of electric mobility while minimizing the risks. #ev #batterytechnology #fire https://lnkd.in/g8eA5_k8

Misinformation vs the facts! At #Chargeboss we are often asked about EV Fire Safety especially when installing chargers 🔌 in enclosed car spaces. Insurers are also having a hard time understanding and assessing the risks. #EVfiresafe has key data from Australia and around the world bringing clarity to a new and emerging industry.
🔥 No, an electric fire truck did NOT set fire to a fire station 🔥 Some reports (looking at you MotorBiscuit) have stated that an electric fire truck caught fire in Germany, burning down a brand new fire station. This is not correct. A lithium-ion powered tool or device (yet to be confirmed) went into thermal runaway on a DIESEL truck, leading to the fire spreading. Unfortunately, the station did not have fire protection systems in place, meaning it was a total loss. This is the third incident we've tracked where a LiB powered tool has caused a fire on a fire truck. In the previous two, small battery packs were involved, potentially following damage during operational use. Ever heard the saying 'a lie travels the world while the truth is getting its shoes on'? Please check your sources before sharing incorrect information about EV battery fires... #EVFire #evbatteryfire #evemergencyresponse #evincidentmanagement #lithiumionbatteryfire #thermalrunaway

This is what happens when electric cars collide. There are multiple explosions as the heavy duty lithium-ion batteries explode compartment-wise. *A lithium fire is a Class D fire that requires a specialized fire extinguisher.* Regular extinguishers meant for Class A, B & C fires (like water, foam, dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide and clean agent) *cannot and should not be used on Class D fires*, as they will *worsen the fire* instead of dousing it, and they can even fatally injure the user. Fumes of lithium fires are also toxic. #Safety #lithium batteries #Hybrid vehicles #Class D Fire

In the new world of fighting electric car fires, the most confident claims are now being made. One tool promises to put out the flames from the battery in an instant, another promises to stop the thermal runaway with it. Yet other tools simply promise that ‘it works’ and that you should just trust them to do so. Very promising. But no. At Fire Isolator, we have spoken and trained enough with professionals over the past 3 years to remain humble and realistic. Indeed, we have actively sought out critical professionals to keep us on track. Including the ‘arms in front of the chest, disapproving look-types’. It has brought us realism, improvements to the products, a wider range of water mist products, and better practical applicability. FireRescue1: Electric vehicle fires: Where the waiting game wins. Once a battery cell fails, it is impossible to extinguish the failed cell as the chemical reaction inside the cell happens far too quickly. The only way to stop a thermal runaway is by directly cooling the cells involved to ensure that the failed cell does not cause the cells around it to also fail. https://lnkd.in/dMpK57Mw
