Day 1 at the Perspectives Woman in Tech Summit 2024 was enlightening; listening to influential women, they discussed crucial topics about leadership, technology, and the future. Most memorable was Dawn Jones's speech "To add value, you must know your value". She presented three key points: 1️⃣ Understanding personal value 2️⃣ Leadership isn't about a title 3️⃣ The importance of practicing self-care 🌞 Understanding Personal Value Recognizing your value is essential. It's important to know what you bring to the table and how to communicate it to your superiors and peers. Make sure your expectations align with theirs. Consider asking your manager questions like: ▶ Am I meeting your expectations? ▶What should I do to get a promotion? ▶How can I help you succeed? Helping your manager succeed is a strategic move for career advancement. This isn't about personal gain but aligning your goals with your boss's. Strive to help them achieve their objectives, which also aids your personal growth. ❇ Leadership from Any Seat Use your voice. Being present in leadership meetings isn't enough; active participation is vital. Come to meetings prepared with thought-provoking questions to contribute to the conversation meaningfully. This approach is key for impactful leadership. 🔔 The Importance of Self-Care Jones offered valuable advice: if you're in a meeting with multiple teammates and you're not speaking, have a teammate take notes for you. Review the notes later. This approach saved her two hours a day and is a strategy I'm eager to try.
