We Pakistanis are good at spin doctoring. How this one statment is taken out of context, the reality is Pakistan only gets 40% of its required bandwidth rest of 60% which is mostly Social Media traffic is fed through local CDN cache. When people use VPN they bypass these CDN thus creating congestion which impacts Internet speed & performance.

Just imagine the level of mentality at play here. The Federal Minister of IT believes that internet slowdowns or outages are caused by people using VPNs. Does she even have a clue what a VPN is? The excuse used was that a lot of people had switched to using VPNs which bypasses the cache. What percentage of population uses VPN? A very small percentage. Free VPNs usually have connection limit. Decrease in cache hits is expected to be much less than the spikes that happen every other day especially on Fridays when people download torrents and movies which are not cached either. People had to start using VPN for blocked social media sites mainly. These sites require login and not cached on public servers in the first place. Myth: busted
