Question to recruiters and hiring managers: If a software engineering candidate challenges you to play a game they've made, and if they win, they get a fair interview, would you: 1. Accept if it's a fighting game. 2. Not accept the challenge at all. 3. Accept if it's a racing game. 4. Tell them that this is unacceptable. 5. Other?. If you don't have the answer, please share. 😂 #softwareengineering #tech #programming #recruiting #hr

The problem with hiring in software is that most interviews focus on writing code and "culture fit" instead of focusing on the daily tasks which occupy a developer's time. The five primary responsibilities or duties that are commonly assigned to software developers from my experience are: 1. Write code/produce a dataset 2. Review another developer's PR 3. Triage a production incident 4. Review a technical design doc 5. Review a product requirements doc So why is it that most work involves reading and understanding other people's work while the hurdle to joining a company is about demonstrating that you can produce work? Seems backwards if you ask me. #recruiting #software #developers #interviews #hiring #tech

🚨 The Dangerous Trap of Disqualifying Candidates 🚨 It's time to call out a major flaw in how some hiring teams approach interviews—especially in the tech industry. Too often, I've seen software engineers disqualified because they don't "know what we know" or "talk like we talk." This narrow-minded approach is not only lazy but also detrimental to innovation. Software engineers are some of the fastest learners out there. They thrive on new challenges, adapt to new languages and frameworks, and solve complex problems daily. Yet, instead of recognizing this, some hiring teams are more focused on finding reasons to say "no" than on uncovering the potential each candidate brings. When you expect every candidate to be a mirror image of your current team, you’re stifling diversity and creativity. The best engineers aren’t those who already know everything—they’re the ones who learn quickly and think differently. Stop disqualifying and start qualifying. Your next game-changing hire might just be the one who doesn’t fit the mold. #Hiring #SoftwareEngineering #Innovation #Recruitment #TechTalent #Leadership

I hired a software developer with a career gap. No interviews. No CV. No references. Out of 100s of applications, they stood out. Here’s why: -They built a demo project that showcased their skills. -They reached out with thoughtful insights about my company’s tech stack. - They didn’t just talk about their abilities, they showed them. Today, they’re leading projects with me. It’s time we stop obsessing over gaps in resumes. Instead, let’s focus on what truly matters: → Skills. → Initiative. → A hunger to grow. If someone can prove they have the skills, the gaps shouldn’t matter. If you’re looking for a job: show your work and bet on yourself. If you’re hiring: focus on skills, not career gaps. Great hires deserve second chances. Want the best talent? Start seeing the whole person. Share this if you believe in giving skilled professionals a fair chance! #careergap #skillset #employeecareer #mentalhealth #workculture #talent

A mid-level Software Engineer (and good friend of mine) lands 1-3 new interviews, every single week. He's been through 100+ interviews so far. How to replicate this in your #jobsearch ? 1. Reach out to every single recruiter, HR, Talent, People manger in any target company you want to work at. A short intro note expressing interest and if you can chat. The right recruiter, when they see the message will reply. And I mean EVERY recruiter, not 1 recruiter. WHY? It's often not clear who the person responsible for the hiring pipeline is - so increase your odds. Here's a short note you can use: Hi Jenny - I applied the role for Backedn Eng at JustWorks, I'm very interested. My background can be a fit based my experience in Java and C#. Can we chat? 2. Go back through your network, look for your co-workers, where they are working now. Look at recruiters, eng managers, other people in tech you are connected to. Reach out to them! Send them DM's on Linkedin, asking for help in a few ways. Are you staring at this sentence in disbelief? Maybe reach out to people instead of stare at posts....it's totally OK to reach out to people, that's what LinkedIn is for. 3. Find new companies hiring every single week + engage with them. Choose 10 companies that have people on LinkedIn posting about their roles and ask to connect with them, engage with them, follow and connect w more people in the company. Actually engage with people who are posting roles, in meangingful and unique ways. No, that does not include commenting "im interested" on a post, sorry - that's too common and boring. You have to find ways to be relevant, so try it out! Engineers go from very stuck to landing consistent interviews every month using these simple tips - if you're not doing this - what's holding you back? Happy Holidays - You got this! If you're a Software Engineer book a 15min call to chat further about taking that next step in your career: https://lnkd.in/g7_8Vg4n --

#JobSearch #SoftwareEngineering #InterviewExperience #CareerGrowth Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a bit about my experience with a recent software engineering job application that left me feeling pretty bummed out—especially after a lengthy recruiting process that stretched on for two whole months. 😅 So, it all started when a recruiter reached out to me. I went through the usual steps, from a pre-screening to a coding interview, where I felt pretty confident after practicing on LeetCode. I managed to tackle some tricky edge cases, which I thought went well. After that, I progressed to the next round, which included: Domain Expertise Experience Coding System Design I thought I gave my all in those interviews, especially in coding and system design. The interviewers seemed pleased with my responses. However, I found the experience interviewer to be quite rigorous, pressing me for examples of complicated situations I had faced at work. The truth is, I prefer to stick to the ... How Can I Overcome Software Job Rejection After Long Interviews? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gN_5Ws2t
