After I meet with exec candidates, I always ask them, “How did you find the conversation?” – I’m looking for candid feedback and ways to improve and develop our executive registration process. Here’s a couple of the recent answers: “Very good – I got the feeling Corvus knows what they are doing, quite a lot of conversations that I’ve had are superficial. There was depth to what you were getting into. “How do you recruit top talent to your team?” Me: “I don’t.” I recently had a conversation with a peer about the keys to recruiting good talent to my team. And my answer was simple…”I don’t”. I don’t focus on recruiting at all. 🎓 But to be clear…My team is RICH with talented people and my candidate slates are packed with amazing others. It wasn’t always this way. I used to have short slates, half of which didn’t know what the team did, but were just looking to get out of a worse situation. I used to have to proactively reach out to people to artificially manufacture a good pipeline. Not anymore. 💡 The secret: TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE ON YOUR TEAM NOW! Build a team culture worth talking about And the funnel of new talent will take care of itself. If you have a problem attracting good talent to your team, take a look at the culture you’ve built. ❓ What are people saying about your team when they leave it or when they’re talking to other teams? ❓Are you providing opportunities for exposure to leadership that challenges them and gets them seen? ❓Are people being promoted out or just taking lateral moves? If they aren’t bragging about how great your team is, you have work to do. People on your team should know: 1️⃣ You have their backs 2️⃣ You want them to take risks (and you provide opportunities to do so) 3️⃣ You are pushing for their success over your own 4️⃣ They can come to you with concerns, fears and issues in confidence 5️⃣ We’re a team and we’re all working for each other If you do that, you’ll build a culture that: ✔ Gets bragged about ✔ Becomes the envy of other teams ✔ Has top talent lined up at the door when a spot comes available ✔ Grows throughout the organization 📑 Your work is never done.
