According to Agnieszka Kurant, everything we make – from the systems that oppress us to the inventions that transform us – is the result of a collective. (The New York Times Style Magazine, 2021) Presenting ‘Risk Landscape’ at Mudam, Agnieszka Kurant's exhibition is inspired by new technologies that attempt to predict, simulate and monetise possible futures. One example, represented on this picture, is ‘Sentimentite’ (2022), a new mineral that Kurant created from objects used as informal or official currencies throughout human civilisation. Among other things, shells, bones, cigarettes, washing powder, animal teeth, lithium batteries, books and electronic waste have been reduced to microparticles and then pulverised and moulded. In my exploration of how the Vedas might have nurtured the concept of Brahman and organized a system of Vedas around it, I draw an analogy to the development of contemporary science. Just as modern science has evolved from early observations to advanced theories, with the current challenge of reconciling classical and quantum physics over the past 400 years, the Vedic sages painstakingly developed a profound understanding of Brahman through their iterative and recursive processes. Shankara and his followers were captivated by the Apaurushaya concept of Vedanta but may have only superficially engaged with Aham Brahmasmi, potentially overlooking the depth of Brahman’s creation and its embodiment in human wisdom. The Rishis, akin to scientists, had extraordinary insight into Brahman and meticulously organized this understanding into the Vedic system, using sound and tone to develop Sanskrit and the Vedas. This monumental effort, spanning thousands of years and involving countless dedicated individuals, required sophisticated methods for capturing and connecting data. Brahman represents the pinnacle of this genius insight, and the subsequent organization of the Vedic system is a testament to its profound depth. Just as it has taken modern science 400 years to touch on aspects like dark matter, the derivation of Brahman’s concept involved an extensive process of assimilation and understanding. This process has been iterative, requiring time and space to integrate all variations and relativity to reach the present understanding. Recognizing humans as the highest expression of evolution in line with Aham Brahmasmi, it becomes apparent that human creativity is central to this journey. Our ongoing evolution towards greater equity, diversity, inclusiveness, and belonging reflects a desire to make the universe more inclusive and harmonious. By understanding and aligning with our unique strengths in a responsible way, we aim to reduce stress and contribute positively to our surroundings. ... Hindu achievements in science went unappreciated in the West for too long. Besides creating chess in its original form as well as a sophisticated number system, the Hindus made numerous scientific discoveries that can rightly be called major today. Those discoveries include, but are certainly not limited to, the relativity of time and space, heat as a source of molecular change and the existence of atoms.
