❓ #FAQFriday: "Why did we feel so strongly that we started One World Together?" 💡 Our Co-Founders and Chief Stewards Nicola Banks and Chibwe Masabo Henry had researched on and worked long enough in the UK NGO sector that they knew one very important thing: we find ourselves at a crisis stage in which the whole sector acknowledges it just doesn't work. ❌ Somehow financing systems for global development have created a fallacy that short-term, inflexible and project-based interventions around the world (led from the North) can promote long-term development. They can't. Add to this the fact that the system that we have is hugely expensive, very unequal and disempowering to community-based organisations around the world and it's something drastic needs to be done. 😫 But if there is agreement that the system is not fit for purpose, there is also a shared recognition that genuinely changing it is incredibly different. So many of the influences on these problems are far outside each organisations' own individual control. 🌅 So we set out to build an entirely new system, one that trusted communities around the world to deliver long-term change and financed them on the terms that made this possible...on a long-term, predictable and unrestricted basis. 1️⃣🌍❤️ And so One World Together was born, rooted in our firm and passionate belief that we can all come together around a new, affordable and engaged model of financing and in doing so we can change the world.
