“The sooner health conditions are identified in an individual the better, as we can support people to receive the appropriate care as soon as possible for the best long-term gain,” said Faye Southcombe, Director Healthy Kids & Families. In 2018, we established the Growing Healthy Kids framework and investigated clinical practices for supporting children with weight management. Featured resource: 'What are the shared decision-making experiences of adult children in regard to their parent/s’ health care in residential aged care facilities?' Article alert: ‘Identifying barriers and facilitators for the effective diagnosis and provision of primary health care for otitis media from the perspective of carers of Aboriginal children’ - Gloria Lau, Roz Walker and team 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/d5aaik76 This particular finding (echoed in other papers including from Letitia Campbell and team) about parents and caregivers feeling dismissed when they raise concerns about their child’s ear health - we examined the relationship between parent/caregiver concern and their child’s clinical results and I have to say (in the words of Letitia and Trumaine Rankmore, investigators on our project) parents and caregiver ‘know what they’re talking about’. Our data shows that, overall, parents’ and caregivers’ concerns (and non-concerns) align with their child’s clinical results. They have predictive value as part of the ear health and hearing check battery. Looking forward to sharing this story soon.

📮 SURVEY | It's estimated that more than 1 in every 10 adults aged 60 and older has been a victim of elder mistreatment, and that figure is likely an underestimate as many more older people suffered from mistreatment during the pandemic. Trust for America's Health is partnering with EDC (Education Development Center) and the National Alliance for Caregiving to develop tools and guidance to support public health roles in preventing and addressing elder mistreatment. Help guide their efforts in developing this resource by participating in this survey. Responses are anonymous and will take no more than 10 minutes: https://ow.ly/93lx50RsGQ5 The Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative | American Public Health Association | Gerontological Society of America (GSA)

Lord Darzi’s independent review on the state of health services in England has concluded that the service is in “serious trouble”, with long waiting lists, a deterioration in the nation’s underlying health, and problems for people accessing services. Focusing on children, the review highlights soaring demand for child health services, with too many babies, children and young people waiting years for treatment. We welcome the spotlight that this review has shone on the current state of services and are keen to work with the new government to push ahead with their plans to create the healthiest generation of children ever. https://buff.ly/3TsUkA9

We hear it all the time: what gets measured gets done. When it comes to combatting illnesseslike #pneumonia in children, getting good quality of care includes the the #ExperienceOfCare care for both children AND their families. But understanding the experience of care of both children and their caregivers is limited, and if we can’t understand it, we can’t measure it. Recognizing this gap, MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator has reviewed the frameworks and measurement guidance around young children and their caregivers’ experiences during health visits. Download the full scoping review here: https://lnkd.in/eAmx2sNR #MOMENTUM4Kids #WorldPneumoniaDay
