Tropical peatlands and blue carbon ecosystems are crucial yet often overlooked in climate action. There is the need to uncover their massive potential in reducing emissions and preserving biodiversity.

National ecosystem assessments can shape climate change policies and plans by providing up-to-date, credible information on biodiversity and ecosystem services while highlighting opportunities for synergies between climate change and biodiversity agendas. But when it comes to reflecting climate change in a national ecosystem assessment, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach. The NEA Initiative at UNEP-WCMC outlines key entry points for integrating climate change considerations into these assessments, helping policymakers create cohesive climate and biodiversity policies.
