Key insights from a recent Economist Impact article by Vibhuti Garg highlight the critical strategies needed: 🔆 Investment Needs: Annual investments of $120-$140 billion are essential to meet 2030 renewable energy targets, escalating to $7.2-$12.1 trillion by 2050. 🔆 Financing Sources: Both domestic and international financing are crucial. Green finance should account for at least 2.5% of GDP annually until 2030. 🔆 Stakeholder Needs: Tailored policy interventions are necessary for large corporates, MSMEs, and households to adopt low-carbon solutions. 🔆 Financing Mechanisms: Established technologies attract more financing. NBFCs and the Growth of Green Financing in India As India makes progress toward sustainability, there has been an increase in green financing majorly aimed at renewable sources of energy, electric vehicles (EVs), and energy-saving infrastructure development projects. Financial institutions are crucial in enabling this transition, offering innovative solutions to fund eco-friendly projects. For instance, Tata Cleantech Capital has financed renewable energy projects of more than 14GW of capacity, accelerating India's renewable energy goals. Similarly, Mahindra Finance disbursed loans exceeding ₹1,000 crore for EVs in FY23, supporting the rapid adoption of electric mobility. With the EV market expected to grow at a CAGR of 27.2% by 2032 (according to Business Standard), such initiatives are critical to expanding access to clean transportation. The Prime Minister’s National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Green Credit Program provided by the government encourages access to low-cost finance for investment in sustainable initiatives. Monetizing such expansion, financial institutions are using this framework to support the carbon emissions reduction and energy efficiency enhancement project funding. Investments in green bonds and sustainability-linked loans have also gained traction, this has opened doors for innovative funding models to meet the growing demand for sustainable financing, especially in underserved markets. Overcoming challenges like credit access and regulatory barriers requires innovation, partnerships, and global funding. Strengthening public-private partnerships and expanding digital access will empower underserved markets, ensuring inclusive growth while aligning with India’s ambitious climate and development goals. #AcceleratingElectrification is BEAMA's initiative aimed at creating economic opportunities to grow the electrical products supply chain and transform the UK into a low-carbon economy. It serves as the cornerstone of BEAMA's 3-year strategy to accelerate electrification, which is essential for driving industrial development. The push for electrification began 15 years ago with the publication of a Government Energy White Paper, which shifted the focus from gas to clean energy generation, electric transport, and heating. Despite the progress made, we are still far from achieving the full energy transition needed to decarbonise the sector and reach our Net Zero goals. Morocco: developing an industrial decarbonization roadmap framework To develop Morocco’s roadmap, UNIDO and Ministry of Industry and Trade - Morocco led an intensive nine-month process involving 40 industry players (20 large companies and 20 small and medium-sized enterprises or SMEs), the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development - Kingdom of Morocco Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development - Kingdom of Morocco the Energy Efficiency Agency , Moroccan civil society, international climate change and green technology experts. The initial roadmap framework will focus on two hard-to-abate sectors – #steel and #cement – and will later expand to other industries. “This roadmap framework is the first step towards deep decarbonization of the cement and steel industry in Morocco.
