Have you ever tried #selling ceramic #tiles #online?
Many friends in the online market have asked me why ceramic tiles sell poorly online, and there is not an easy answer, but you can see that large manufacturers have websites to show their catalogs, but do not offer the possibility of making purchases.
I have spoken with come clients about this to compile some of the reasons why is not easy to sell tiles online, and they have given me some, in order of importance:
1. #Logistics and #Shipping:
- Weight and Size: Ceramic tiles are heavy and bulky, which makes shipping more expensive and complicated.
- Fragility: These are products that can break during transport, which generates additional costs for replacements and returns.
2. #Visualization and #Selection:
- Real Touch and Visualization: Consumers often prefer to see and touch tiles in person to evaluate texture, color, and finish, which is difficult to replicate on a screen.
- Color Differences: Online images may not accurately represent real colors due to lighting, screen resolution, and other factors.
3. #Advice and #Customization:
- Need for Advice: Often times, choosing tiles may require specialized advice in terms of design, durability, and suitability for the specific space.
- Customization: Many customers are looking for customized solutions or specific combinations that are easier to discuss in a physical store.
4. #Market Segment:
- Traditional Market: Many ceramic tile stores have a customer base that prefers the traditional method of in-store purchasing.
- Buying Habits: Tile buyers are often builders, architects, and designers who may prefer to buy wholesale and establish direct business relationships with suppliers.
5. #Cost and #Profitability:
- Profit Margins: Profit margins on selling tiles may not justify the additional costs of establishing and maintaining an online sales infrastructure.
- Competition: Online competition can be fierce and prices may drop, affecting profitability.
6. #Integration with Additional Services:
- Installation and Services: Many brick-and-mortar stores offer installation services that are integrated with the sale of the product. This type of service is more difficult to coordinate through an online platform.
Although there are these barriers, some manufacturers and some stores are beginning to explore e-commerce.
We will see if they are successful or not.
