Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the concept of building machines that can think and learn like humans, or even outperform them. Unlike today's AI, which excels in specific tasks, AGI would have the ability to learn, adapt, and handle any situation just like a human. But is AGI truly achievable, or is it more hype than reality? Some argue that the buzz around AGI is fueled by business interests and profits, rather than actual scientific progress, raising questions about whether AGI is a realistic goal or just a tech fantasy. AGI & the new era. In an AGI system, three key components work together to handle complex tasks efficiently: 1. **Context Window**: Acts as the AI's memory, summarizing and recalling details of your request across interactions to ensure continuity. 2. **Agents**: Specialized workers that break down tasks and execute actions, like scheduling, design, or coding. 3. **Text-to-Action**: Translates commands into actions, coordinating agents and providing real-time feedback. With governance ensuring safety and efficiency, this system enables seamless task automation, providing human-like adaptability across various domains.

we are quite far from AGI. We do not know how to make systems that draw consistent results from chaos of conflicting and competing interactions that have high degrees of inherent unpredictability, multi-scale local autonomy and thus freewill. Without freedom, intelligence will always be a simulation of the real thing. Our training mechanisms, our architecture, our inference mechanisms, our incremental approach, all lead to stability (even ignoring deliberate training for stability of outputs to small variations of inputs) Anyone who has watched a honeybee in the garden can feel the ease and freedom of choice they have. That flexibility was matched with life and death. Mistakes can be lethal. I AGI is all a hype. We need very different architectures for freewill to emerge. We are probably decades away; perhaps by the end of the century, we will see the rise of AGI and a new stage in evolution of the Universe. For now the real issues are the ones AI firms don't really emphasize: privacy, copyrights, deepfakes, social manipulations. These are not new.

"Are We Ready for AGI ?" Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the next big step in AI a stage where machines can think and learn like humans, handling any intellectual task. Sounds exciting, right? But it also raises some serious questions. What happens when machines become as smart as us? Will they solve the world’s biggest problems like climate change or curing diseases?Or could they create new challenges we’re not ready for—like job loss, ethical dilemmas, or even losing control over the technology we’ve built? AGI is a powerful idea, but are we truly prepared for it? Let’s start the conversation. What are your thoughts on AGI and its impact on our future?

Helen Wang hosted AGI Pioneer Peter Voss on Perspectives in Progress, where he shared his journey from electronics engineer to AI pioneer who helped coin the term Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in 2001. Peter's journey is inspiring—he grew a small electronics firm into a 400-employee software company before selling it to fully pursue his passion for AGI. By studying intelligence through philosophy, psychology, and AI, he aimed to build machines that think, learn, and reason like humans. 🔍🤖 Peter shared the evolution of AGI from the early days of AI as envisioned by John McCarthy to its current form, dominated by “narrow AI.” Narrow AI achieves impressive feats in isolated tasks, like chess or image recognition, but lacks human-like adaptability. Peter’s vision for AGI focuses on creating machines capable of learning and reasoning across domains, a goal that led him to distinguish AGI as a separate field. This vision highlights AGI’s potential to revolutionize industries—from research to daily personal assistants. 📊💡 One exciting area Peter discussed is AGI’s potential to transform sectors like healthcare, energy, and materials science. Imagine AGI-powered Ph.D.-level researchers working on cancer solutions at scale, or personal assistants that understand us as intimately as a trusted advisor. According to Peter, these advancements can make high-quality services accessible to all while improving our lives and productivity through personalized AI that truly serves our goals. 🌍💼✨ Today's data-driven, statistical models like LLMs suck the oxygen out of the room leaving no room for investors to look elsewhere to achieve AGI without the insanity of huge language models (in terms of the costs and limitations) These models, he says, fall short of human-like thinking. True AGI, in Peter’s view, requires a cognitive AI approach—learning incrementally and adapting like a human child. This paradigm shift could yield intelligent systems that not only understand context but align with human values. As we move forward, responsible AGI development will be key, focusing on alignment and ethical considerations to ensure AGI acts rationally and serves humanity’s best interests. Insanity of Huge Language Models: https://lnkd.in/d5pcyf6R LLMs are not the path to AGI: https://lnkd.in/d3vEPJ2P Direct path to AGI: https://lnkd.in/ggFTxuUz Thank you Helen Wang for sharing this insightful discussion with Peter Voss. https://lnkd.in/g9c3p6xK

🚀 The Future is Calling: Are We Ready for AGI by 2025? 🚀 Imagine a world where your virtual assistant can not only schedule your meetings but understand and even predict your needs. Sound futuristic? Well, get ready, because the future might be closer than you think. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, recently stirred the tech world by suggesting we might see Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) as early as 2025. And this isn't just wishful thinking; it's backed by rapid strides in AI tech. Here's why I'm buzzing with excitement and a pinch of trepidation: 1. **Boundless Potential:** AGI promises to solve complex problems with a speed and accuracy that could redefine human existence. From medical breakthroughs that save lives to climate solutions that preserve our planet, the possibilities are limitless. 2. **A Double-Edged Sword:** With great power comes great responsibility. The prospect of AGI becoming smarter than us raises urgent questions. Can we control it? How do we align its goals with human values to avoid catastrophic outcomes? 🤖 3. **Ethical Punchlines:** If AGI becomes conscious, we enter an ethical maze. Do machines deserve rights? Could they feel emotions? We need to start these conversations now, not later. 4. **Human vs. Machine:** As tech giants like Google and Meta race to the AGI finish line, the stakes couldn't be higher. Whoever achieves AGI first might hold the key to unimaginable progress—or peril. 5. **Our Role:** It's not just up to tech companies. Regulators, researchers, and YOU could play a pivotal role in steering this technology to benefit all of humanity. The clock is ticking towards 2025, and like physicist Max Tegmark suggests, there may be a crucial window when AI is developing fast yet still approachable. We must seize this moment to ensure AGI serves as a force for good. 🔍 What are your thoughts? Are you excited or anxious about AGI’s approach? What measures should we take to prepare? Let's discuss in the comments! #AGI #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfWork #TechEthics #Innovation --- Feel free to adapt this template to match your personal insights and professional tone!
