✨Navigating Your Flying Career: An Aviation Recruiter's Perspective Recently, I was asked a fantastic question: "What's your single most important piece of advice?" My answer? "Don't rely on a single source for your advice." Here's why: ✈ Diverse Insights Matter: I've often heard pilots mention things they learned in flight school or from a coach that don't hold up in the real world of recruiting and hiring. ✈ 121 vs. 135 Nuances: Advice isn't one-size-fits-all. What works for a 121 coach or pilot might not be relevant for a 135 job search. It's crucial to seek guidance from someone who understands the specific pathway you're pursuing. ✈ Broad Perspectives: When I chat with pilots, I share what I know but also encourage them to seek advice from others. Aviation is full of variables and unique operators, and no single person has all the answers. Networking thought for the day…“don’t burn bridges.”  The aviation community is not as big as one might think… With networking being essential for career growth, it’s crucial to maintain professionalism and integrity along the way. According to the FAA, at end of 2023, there were active pilot certificates in the following categories: Commercial & ATP certificates - 280,824  Private Certificates - 167,711 Rotorcraft “only” – 13,428 This is less than 500k active pilots in the workforce, in the U.S. The way you depart a job can resonate throughout the tight-knit aviation community. Leaving on good terms ensures that your reputation remains intact and that you maintain valuable connections for the future. Some ideas to ensure bridges are left intact upon departure: ·      Give an appropriate amount of time when you resign. If your future employer does not respect your desire to give a 2-week notice to your current employer, that could be a red flag for that new employer. ·      Caution about bad-mouthing the prior employer…giving someone a heads-up that a prior company might not be a great place to work can be done professionally without bad-mouthing that employer. Always be respectful and considerate, both in your resignation and in your professional interactions.
