We're excited to share that a Utah study outlining an innovative response to post-pandemic challenges in the workforce has been published in the Journal of Industry and Higher Education, a SAGE Journals publication. In today’s fast-changing global marketplace, both economy and workforce are struggling to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and the evolving expectations of new generations in the workplace. This challenge is just as present in rural as in urban areas. Researchers at Southern Utah University and Utah Tech University explore an action research approach that brings industry, government, and higher education together to create new ways of addressing employer needs. It's about listening, learning, and collaborating. https://lnkd.in/ghXGUXiD

I saw a flood of posts last week following Sierra College's Workforce Summit. This meant two things to me: 1) Clearly this event had a far reach and high impact. 2) That I should wait to do another post about it 😆. In all seriousness, it was extremely insightful and encouraging. The biggest takeaways were growth, community, and problem solving. Organizations are actively working together to solve the workforce problems of not just the present, but the future. Lance Hastings gave the keynote address discussing the importance of manufacturing to this region in the future and how they are planning to fuel the workforce. Big things will continue to come in Manufacturing. Kimberly Menzel, Ryan Ronco, Tim Sisson, Scott Olsen, and Amy Schulz, PhD, MBA provided some great perspective from some of the largest employers in Placer County. Did you know 1 out of every 100 babies born in California is born at Kaiser in Roseville? talk about a staple of the community! Barry Broome, Evan Schmidt, Rana Ghadban, and other community leaders discussed the ongoing efforts of creating opportunities for a stronger, more equitable workforce. Rest assured, they are fighting for this community. We then got to hear how educational institutions from K-12 through higher education were partnering with each other and the community to create more opportunities and access to good career paths. Lastly, Todd Trotter closed us out with inspiration and hope after hearing about Kaiser's dedication to keep improving the way their HR operates, a lesson that can inspire others. As with any good leader, he is constantly looking for partnerships and opportunities. Soft skills came up a number of times as something that has been overlooked, but is as important as ever. We must keep teaching the new generations these skills, because not even Covid could make them irrelevant. In summary, Placer County is leading the way by setting a higher standard for its workforce and community, as well as the organizations that operate within it. #WorkforceDevelopment #PlacerCounty #PlansForTheFuture #Growth #Community

Excited to share a new blog post I co-authored with Julian Alssid on solving America's workforce dilemma through bipartisan solutions. Our proposal builds upon initiatives put forth by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce to develop coordinated education and career pathways, with a focus on concrete, tangible steps that Americans can readily experience for themselves. There is a bipartisan path forward if we focus on evidence-based policies that demonstrably expand opportunities for workers. Check out our blog and join the discussion in the comments below! #workforce #education #futureofwork #educationpolicy #futureofeducation

Interesting article positioning the value of wisdom in the workplace. Crystallised intelligence - what we know, or are able to use from experience - is found to remain stable or increase until at least the age of 70 or so. I'll leave someone else to argue whether, in the context of the article, wisdom and crystallised intelligence are, or are not, one and the same thing. https://lnkd.in/egT3tqUP

🚀 Thrilled to see New York Governor Kathy Hochul taking bold steps in workforce development with the new program in Syracuse! This initiative strikes at the heart of what professionals need today: targeted skill enhancement and clear pathways to employment. By focusing on healthcare, technology, and manufacturing, this program sets a blueprint for regional economic resilience. But here's the catch: initiatives like these shouldn't just be periodic. We need continuous, adaptive learning systems that evolve with industry demands and technological advancements. Collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and government agencies should be the default practice, not the exception. Let's lobby for more such partnerships across regions! To all the professionals out there, this is a clarion call to engage with and benefit from such opportunities. Upskilling is no longer optional—it's vital for staying relevant in an ever-changing job market. #WorkforceDevelopment #Upskilling #EdTech #EconomicGrowth #CareerAdvancement #SyracuseJobs #FutureOfWork Read more here: https://bit.ly/4gS3gch
