“The triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature loss and pollution is driven from a crisis of unsustainable consumption and production. We must work with nature, instead of merely exploiting it,” Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UN Environment Programme. High-income countries, often characterized by their industrialized economies and higher standards of living, tend to consume significantly more resources per capita than low-income countries. This includes energy, water, land, and raw materials. These countries typically produce higher levels of greenhouse gas emissions per capita compared to low-income countries. This is largely due to their reliance on fossil fuels for energy production, transportation, and industrial activities. These emissions contribute to climate change and its associated impacts, such as rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and sea-level rise. Efforts to address these disparities often involve strategies aimed at promoting sustainable development, reducing resource consumption, increasing energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and providing support for adaptation and resilience-building measures in vulnerable communities. However, addressing these inequalities requires concerted global cooperation and action to ensure that all countries can achieve economic prosperity while minimizing their environmental footprint. https://lnkd.in/d3Sm7yEk Article credit: UN Environment Programme Follow Sustainability Forward for update on latest trends, insights and discussions on sustainability. #sustainabilty #sustainabledevelopment #sdgs2030 #ecoconscious #sustainablebusiness #unitednations #biodiversity #greentech #actnow #generationrestoration #UNEP #climatecrisis #sdg7 #sdg13 #renewableenergy #Righttocleanenviroment #collaboration

🌍✨ Happy Earth Day from GOLDBECK SOLAR ✨🌍 Today, people all around the world honor and celebrate our remarkable planet. However, Earth Day is not just a single day in the year; it is every day. If we fail to protect the planet we call home, future generations will inherit a world vastly diminished We firmly believe that the UN's sustainability goals are a collective responsibility. That's why they are an essential part of our Green Policy. To accomplish these goals, we need to shift our thinking and use this as a foundation for sustainable transformation. Our actions and decisions not only impact the economy, but also nature and society. As a company we include this mindset in every decision we make. Our strategy to achieve sustainability revolves around three main topics: ☀️ Biodiversity ☀️CO2 Emissions ☀️ Resource Efficiency, which involves using fewer resources to produce more output or achieve the same results. Together, we can help change the world. Let's take action on climate change. What sparked your 'lightbulb moment' about sustainability? My "lightbulb moment" about #sustainability came from recognizing the unsustainable trajectory of our current growth-focused model. Insights from the #Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), projecting 2024 as potentially the warmest year on record—surpassing the critical 1.5ºC threshold—made it clear that this isn’t just an energy issue but a call to rethink how we live, consume, and grow. The concept of “degrowth” resonated with me as a necessary shift, emphasizing sustainability, equity, and quality of life over endless consumption. Implementing this approach requires a balanced view on energy: "a strategic mix that embraces #renewables while making efficient use of existing resources." The recent statement by a major energy industry leader highlighted the limitations of prematurely phasing out #oil and #gas, especially for developing nations that depend on these resources for economic stability. It reinforced the idea that we must focus not only on reducing emissions but also on creating equitable pathways for energy access. This shift in thinking showed me that sustainability isn’t about one solution but a balanced transformation. We need policies that align with both planetary limits and human needs—where sustainability is achieved not through unchecked consumption but through conservation, innovation, and a fair approach to energy. Climate data and energy realities serve as reminders: we must go beyond business-as-usual to create a truly sustainable future. As we approach #COP29, it’s essential that we advocate for policies that reflect this balanced approach. Degrowth principles can provide a valuable framework for rethinking energy use, shifting from a mindset of endless consumption to one of conscious conservation and resilience. The Copernicus data should serve as a call to action—not just for emissions reduction, but for a reimagining of our economic and energy systems, ensuring that the path forward is both environmentally sustainable and socially just. #GreenerTogether #energytransition #LinkedInNewsEurope #ESG

𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐭 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐭𝐮𝐛 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 "Net zero" is a term we hear often, but explaining it can be challenging. Here's a simple analogy that I heard a couple of times in my lectures that helped me: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐭𝐮𝐛. The water represents greenhouse gas emissions, the fast-flowing tap is human activity, and the drain is the Earth's natural carbon cycle. When the water rises faster than the drain can handle, we get an overflow, leading to climate change. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐬 "𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲"? It's the stuff we do that releases greenhouse gases—like burning fossil fuels for electricity and transportation, deforestation, and industrial processes. These activities turn the tap on faster. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 "𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧"? That's actually really interesting. Because the Earth can normally regulate itself. It's the Earth's natural carbon sinks—like forests, oceans, and soil— that have the superpower of absorbing carbon dioxide. They're like giant sponges that soak up carbon dioxide from the air, just like how a sponge soaks up water. But when we disturb nature by cutting down trees or polluting oceans, it's like blocking Earth's natural sponge, preventing it from absorbing carbon dioxide properly, which can lead to excess greenhouse gases in the air, which therefore then warming up the planet. 𝐍𝐨𝐰, 𝐥𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨: 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 is like using buckets to scoop out water from a bathtub that's overflowing. Carbon neutrality means having a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere in carbon sinks. (Source: https://lnkd.in/eFZcDwhd) 𝐍𝐞𝐭 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 is like fixing the tap so the bathtub stops overflowing completely. At net zero, carbon dioxide emissions are still generated, but an equal amount of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere as is released into it, resulting in zero increase in net emissions. #NetZero emissions refer to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted into the atmosphere and the amount removed or offset. This can be accomplished by enhancing natural carbon sinks like forests and using technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS). The goal is to stabilise and reduce GHG concentrations, mitigating the effects of climate change. Achieving net zero is crucial for long-term sustainability and resilience. It promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green technology innovation, driving economic growth and job creation. Additionally, it improves public health by reducing air pollution, ensures cleaner cities, and preserves natural habitats. Let's commit to a sustainable future together! Diary of a CEO (The Green Warrior)Climate Chance effect on wildlife. wildlife at Risk: Humans are not the only species impacted by our planet’s climate crisis. The world’s wildlife and habitats will also face profound, sometimes catastrophic, change. Increases in temperature could trigger the collapse of fragile ecosystems and huge waves of extinction. The choices we make today have the power to reduce the suffering of people and animals in the future. We know why our climate is changing, in some cases faster than people and wildlife can adapt. We release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels while at the same time destroying carbon-absorbing nature, such as forests, seagrass and salt marches. These carbon emissions are causing the greenhouse effect, trapping heat and making the Earth warm faster than could happen naturally. People and nature worldwide are already feeling the effects: water supplies are shrinking, extreme weather events increasing in frequency and intensity, forests burning, and coral reefs dying. Humans and wild animals face new challenges for survival because of climate change. More frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans can directly harm animals, destroy the places they live, and wreak havoc on people’s livelihoods and communities. In Conclusion Each and every one of us living on our beautiful planet is the root cause of climate change. But we all know what to do to put it right. Representative from around the world are talking on what to do, But nothing seems to get done? We need to see action as well.
