This approach is especially relevant to teaching adult literacy learners as it provides for the use of both top-down and bottom-up strategies, can provide context and motivation for learning and assist in planning instruction. Elsie will walk us through how to approach a reading using this method and share an art project her learners created using the story My English School. The call for evidence for the review of the English National Curriculum closes 22nd November (Tomorrow) Specifically, the review seeks to deliver: 1.     an excellent foundation in reading, writing and maths 2.     a broader curriculum, with improved access to music, art, sport and drama, as well as vocational subjects 3.     a curriculum that ensures young people leave compulsory education ready for life and work 4.     a curriculum that reflects the issues and diversities of our society, ensuring all children and young people are represented 5.     an assessment system that captures the strengths of every child and the breadth of the curriculum We urge our readers to respond – and particularly to remind the DfE, as we have done, of the central importance of Character Education (particularly in answering number 3. above!).
