𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘀!!! …𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁! Last week we moved out of the condo we lived in for nine years. With a large, expanded family, it no longer met our needs. The good news is we bought our dream place. Yet I realized how sad, exhausting and stressful the move has been. My husband and I often were tired and short-tempered. Our move is in three stages — out of the old place into storage, then into temporary housing, and finally into the new place in mid-December. That greatly increased the planning, packing and unpacking. This same process can happen at work. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. People go through the same range of emotions I did during this move. Even if the company change is for the better, it causes disruption for the people affected. When we as leaders forget this, we create unrealistic expectations for the people we lead. They need time to grieve, to say goodbye to “neighbors,” to old ways of doing things, to their space, to pack and unpack. When we rush the process, people must bury their feelings. Unexpressed feelings often cause accidents, exhaustion, sickness and mistakes. Anger often prompts deliberate sabotage to the project — affecting products or shipments, causing delays or cost overruns. How do you handle the emotional side of change at work? Please share your stories and tips. #propelleaderstogreatness #elitehighperformancecoaching #leadership #HighPerformanceLeadership #CfHP #highperformance

Great perspective. I don’t make it look like a surprise to my team. Long before the change happens I will discuss issues around change at meetings and say what if…. What if’s so that our minds are ready and prepared for the change. It doesn’t have to be spontaneous at all. Thanks for sharing, Susan.

Lucia and Rick it will all be worth it but I can only imagine how much work it is. Good luck in your new home.

This advice on change could not be more on time and on point for many of us, me included. It’s been years since we’ve connected, but I have always valued your perspective through your post.

I can empathize and relate with our cross country move too. Exciting and stressful all in one, but so worth it. Change is hard, but it’s also an opportunity to look at things differently - new routine, new memories, exciting things. Sending hugs and packing tape 😂 there never seems to be enough!

Good luck Susan 😀
