This week I‘ve been to Frankfurt for a couple of very inspiring discussions on S/4HANA and large size transformation projects. Key takeaways: 🧑🏾💼👨💼 Meet in person is key for creating real innovative ideas. 💻⌨️ S/4HANA offers amazing opportunities but roadmaps promise to last for years, not months. 🧭⏱️ Longterm perspectives beat shortterm opportunities - but needs endurance and courage. “This is the best thing that ever happened to me.” No exaggeration. This is the powerful comment from one of the people at INDAERO GRUPO EMERGY SL, the company we bought last year and is now going through a radical transformation to a #bossless company. When I was there two weeks ago, I didn’t expect to be blown away the way I was. The transformation has just been 7(!) months in the making, but the changes the company and the people have been going through are absolutely mind-blowing. Some other powerful comments: 🎙️ “The past few months have been a rollercoaster. But in a good way. I’ve learned so much about myself and others, I feel like a different person now.” 🎙️ “I’ve developed so much personally; I even notice it outside work. How I deal with things at home with my family and friends has changed dramatically.” But of course, it’s not all roses and sunshine. Such a bold #transformation is hard: 🎙️ “I was one of the few who voted ‘no’ when we were asked to vote if we wanted this transformation. To be honest, I would still vote ‘no’. As the Company Phase of our 12th AFRIKA KOMMT! cohort at SAP draws to a close, we held one final, special Executive Exchange last Thursday. Gathering at the CloudBar in SAP Guesthouse Cloud 44, the Fellows had the opportunity to connect with Florian Roth, Executive Sponsor of AFRIKA KOMMT! at SAP. Over delicious cocktails, our AFRIKA KOMMT! Fellows shared stories of their experiences in Germany, their time at SAP, and the exciting journeys that lie ahead. Florian Roth also took this opportunity to offer the Fellows valuable advice as they transition from the end of AFRIKA KOMMT! to their next chapter. He emphasized the importance of staying adaptable in the face of constant change: "Change is constant. The key is to stay curious and open - because through embracing change, we unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation." Reflecting on the session, Diana Mwamile, one of our AK! Fellows, shared: "The session with Florian was truly enlightening. His insights on the importance of aligning your career with your passions and interests resonated deeply. For most customers SAP S/4 HANA is simply a choice of staying as close to what they have without truly challenging the underlying assumptions. This is going to be a set of choices that will either haunt you or benefit you for potentially decades to come, so make it that you make those choices on an informed basis. This is exactly the idea behind this year's Open Innovation Day. Not to showcase that SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud Edition might be an option, but to showcase - in practical terms - what Clean Core means and how it combines with knowledge and experience can provide a foundation for agility and modern architecture. It is going to be interesting to see what the participants are going to add to the innovation on top of SAP S/4 HANA and what will be facing the judges and their evaluation at the end of the day. Showcasing where the value in bridging Event-Driven Architecture and Clean Core with the practicalities of Cloud Application Programming and SAP Fiori is going to be examples worth sharing. Sometimes the best way to convey potential benefits is simply to show the effect of doing it. However, technology in itself doesn't add innovation - it is just tools in an ever-increasing tool.  Applying these together with a great idea after having identifying a terrific use case is where the challenge truly lies.
