Apprenticeships can we have a coordinated approach to all of aviation/ aerospace/ airline apprenticeships please. Bring back or grow City and Guilds backed terms with yearly progress , pay structure and total support from the company aspects of supporting these candidates like the did before. Indentured apprenticeships that allow companies to handle workforce enhancements because I am not seeing it, levels that show across craft levels, technical and university levels of candidates that are fully sponsored by the host companies who in turn get the right staff exactly when they need them. Or am I just an old in my approach to solving a market that needs addressing for the future least we get there and do not miss an opportunity.

Corporate early career managers! I speak to loads of these managers on a weekly basis. Some of them, stand out, some of them, well don’t. Yesterday I was able to speak to the type that stands out big time! James Clark from Airbus Defence and Space and I sat down for what was meant to be a quick chat about all things careers… [it wasn’t quick - we spent 90minutes on the topic] We went through some of the challenges that they are facing and some of the goals they are trying achieve. I’ll tell you now, these challenges are not uncommon. James stands out as one of the best players in apprenticeships, not just because he works for a very cool company, I’m definitely not jealous at all. [I am] But because, he genuinely cares, is passionate, and is actively working on helping his apprentices succeed! Why did I choose an apprenticeship? 🤔 Well... for most of my life, I never even considered an apprenticeship. I was always unsure what I wanted to do with my life, but I was certain I would be going to university. Many people would tell me: "University is the best path for you." "Why consider any other options?" I began attending college in 2021, which was really for the first time I was properly introduced to the idea of apprenticeships. I remember sitting in this session in a classroom, whilst being told all about the different apprenticeship levels and the benefits of getting a real job with real responsibility. As someone who admittedly had always thought apprenticeships were only for blue collared workers, my mind was blown at how many sectors offer apprenticeships, from retail to technology to head office. After the session, I started browsing online about the current apprenticeship listings near me. Who knew there were so many? It was on this day I came across "British Airways Business Professional Apprentice" and thought to myself, "Wow, British Airways... that sounds really cool." Naturally, I just had to apply. Admittedly, I did not think much of it, would I be worthy of being an apprentice for such a prestigious company? Well... after 4 months and a multi-stage application process later, I get the phone call I had been waiting for. "Congratulations Lucy-May, we would like to offer you a place on the scheme." After that call, I was quite literally jumping up and down in the living room. 1 year and 6 months later, here I am now. Thriving in a dream opportunity, working with some fantastic people, and building my skills, knowledge and experience every day. My advice to all students out there, explore ALL your options and do your own research! Don't rule something out because you don't know much about it or have never considered it. #britishairways #baapprentice #emergingtalent

Apprenticeships offer a clear career path, while university degrees can be aimless 🤷♂️ You have the opportunity with apprenticeships to learn valuable skills which contribute to a professional working environment 🙈 Through building on this foundation 🧱... ...you get the opportunity to continue on the path and get more senior or gain more responsibility 💼... ...or through building that foundation, commit oneself to slight pivots until one finds their path 🗺️ What do you think 🤷♂️
