🌟 Reflecting on an Insightful Event 🌟 I had the opportunity to attend an informative online event hosted by Young Professionals focused on accounting and degree apprenticeships, where industry experts shared valuable insights into the evolving landscape of finance and career preparation. Key takeaways included: The importance of mastering the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for acing interviews, especially when showcasing problem-solving skills and achievements. How degree apprenticeships offer the perfect balance between practical work experience and academic learning, allowing students to "earn while they learn." Insightful career paths in accounting, from audit to tax and beyond, with an emphasis on digital skills being crucial for future success. The value of networking and gaining early exposure to real-world business environments. A huge thanks to the Young Pro team and Ollie, James, Charlotte, Hussein and Ayeesha for providing such a wealth of knowledge. Excited to put these tips into action! #Accounting #DegreeApprenticeships #STARTechnique #CareerDevelopment #FinanceCareers

Want to secure a Degree Apprenticeship? 🚀⭐️ Application season for degree apprenticeships is now underway, and this time last year, I was sat behind my desk feeling the pressure of balancing 20+ applications with my sixth form studies. Having recently started my apprenticeship at KPMG UK, many aspiring apprentices in various industries have reached out asking for tips to succeed during this stressful period. 🤔 This being said, I've decided to share 3 important things that I've learnt along the way, which I strongly believe will give you the best possible chance to progress with applications - and ultimately land that offer: ✅ Get in there early! Degree apprenticeships have become more and more competitive every year, with an acceptance rate of less than 5% in 2024. Applying as soon as firms release new opportunities will give your application a much higher chance of being seen first, thus progressing faster. ✅ Research the company and role well! Each firm will have a distinct set of values - how do they resonate with you personally? Many companies also post on Linkedin, a way to gain valuable insights into the role you've applied to that you may not find on their career website. Mention these in applications/video interviews to set yourself apart from other candidates! ✅ Lastly, having work experience/attending insight events in the field you are applying to can help you to gain transferable skills, boost your CV, and help you stand out as someone with a genuine interest in the role. However, it is not essential - many transferable skills can also be gained through academics, volunteering or hobbies, all which companies find valuable as an apprentice. (It also gives you something to talk about aside from grades!👀) To anybody feeling stuck, or unsure of where to start with applications, don't hesistate to reach out. The process is not an easy one, but you are definitely not alone! 🥊 "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future" - Jeremiah 29:11 #Degreeapprenticeship #applicationseason #apprenticeshiptips

Skills-Based, Early-Career Strategy #2 Professional Apprenticeships Professional apprenticeships, which have been common practice in other parts of the globe, are making headway here in the United States. These programs are different from internships, which are usually defined as short-term work experiences that put existing skills to use to gain experience. An apprenticeship is an extended initiative to teach skills that will help both the employee and the organization in the long term. Several major organizations, such as Accenture, Airbnb and Google, now offer apprenticeships to help their employees advance. Did you know? While 79% of high school students desire work-based learning experiences, only 34% are aware of such opportunities, and just 2% actually engage in hands-on career learning. Our recent poll also revealed that 47% of respondents see hands-on career training as the key to bridging the skills gap. One of the most effective ways to address this gap is through strong partnerships between businesses and educational institutions. By collaborating with schools to offer internships, apprenticeships, and mentorship programs, businesses can provide real-world learning experiences that prepare students for the evolving job market and help close the skills gap.
