“I know that when it comes to media interviews, being prepared is not optional.” Engaging the media is not without risk, and serving as an executive spokesperson for your company comes with responsibilities, including being well prepared. Successful interviews hinge on delivering key messages regardless of what a reporter asks you and sharing valuable insights that matter to your audience. Whether you’re an experienced spokesperson or new to the game, bookmark these tips for successful media interviews that our CEO Moira Conlon shared in Forbes. #MediaInterviews #BestAdvice #CorporateCommunication #Strategy

What strategies do you use to ensure the accuracy of your reports? ✏️ I contact the sources directly to verify my information. If those details come from a press release, I also try to get another source to substantiate that information — after all, press releases, as we know, are not always correct and the issuing authorities often have their own agendas or biases. When quoting someone in an interview, I always work to verify whether their information is correct as well. Just because we attribute something to someone — who may or may not be be a public official — it doesn’t always mean it’s accurate. Quoting what someone says is essentially the same as stating it as fact — so journalists must use caution when reporting any information gathered in the field. We have a responsibility to seek the truth, and if we find we’ve erred we must correct that misstep immediately.

Today's lesson in media interviewing techniques from Young Sheldon: Stick to your messages and don't allow the journalist to put words in your mouth. Think before you react to the question. Bridge to what you want to say. Sheldon could have said, "actually, no. I am just saying that corporations should be responsive to their customers'needs." If you want to know how to handle the tough questions, call me. I've got your back! #messaging #mediatraining #controltheinterview #gotyourback

Don’t try to memorise all financial details of the Trust before your interview. Instead, focus on understanding the bottom line from the Trust’s board report. Knowing whether they’re operating at a deficit or surplus can help you give your answers context.
