If you are a media technology expert, you likely have knowledge about HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding). However, if you are not familiar with HEVC, I recommend reading articles HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) video compression is the use of HEVC for streaming high-quality video content, especially in 4K/Ultra HD resolutions. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+ use HEVC to deliver high-quality video at lower bitrates, reducing bandwidth requirements and improving streaming performance. For example, Netflix uses HEVC for its 4K streaming content, allowing viewers to enjoy high-resolution video with better compression efficiency, leading to smoother streaming experiences even on slower internet connections. HEVC's ability to maintain high video quality while reducing file sizes makes it an excellent choice for delivering high-quality video content over the internet.and satellite channels HEVC Media and IT Solutions VideoCompression.tech

Nielsen released its January report on viewing usage across linear TV and streaming, which revealed that YouTube is once again the overall top streaming service in the U.S., with 8.6% of viewing on television screens. Netflix, meanwhile, saw 7.9% of TV usage. The new data points to YouTube’s dominance in the TV streaming arena and marks 12 consecutive months of the platform being in the top spot. The Google-owned streaming service announced that viewers now watch a daily average of over 1 billion hours of YouTube content on their televisions, which could indicate that there’s a preference for user-generated videos among U.S. consumers rather than traditional TV shows. Sixty-one percent of Gen Z reported that they favor user-generated content over other content formats. Although YouTube may have precedence in the living room, TikTok continues to dominate on mobile devices. The short-form video app recently began testing the ability for TikTokers to upload 30-minute videos, which could step on YouTube’s toes. TikTok also entered the spatial reality space, launching a native app on the Apple Vision Pro. Meanwhile, YouTube decided to not build a dedicated app for the device. #ott #avod #svod #youtube #netflix #tv #viewing #nielsen #streaming

The latest pay-TV and streaming video forecasts for Western Europe show that IP-based services are becoming more popular, somewhat at the expense of traditional pay-TV spend. The latter is likely to decline. There are sixteen unique country forecast reports that drill down into the detail for each Western European country in turn. Some key information areas are: who the major players are, what they are doing, and how that contributes to the trajectory for pay-TV and streaming video in Western Europe.

Out now: my latest pay-TV and streaming video forecasts for Western Europe with Analysys Mason! These numbers show that the pay-TV and streaming video market is halfway through a decade of transformation. - Between 2018 and 2028, pay-TV services not based on IP (i.e. cable, satellite and pay-DTT) in Western Europe will shrink from 33% of connections to just 12%. Use of all traditional broadcast technologies is declining; cable most rapidly. - The decline will also affect spend on non-IP services – dropping from 55% in 2018 to 21% in 2028. Share of spend is higher than share of connections primarily because satellite ASPU is so much higher than for IP-based services. However, in absolute terms, traditional pay-TV’s decline looks less stark. When we look at the actual number of connections and spend for traditional services, as opposed to their share, we see that the decline is not as stark as the percentage share might suggest. Much of the change in percentage share for traditional services is actually because IP-based services are becoming more popular – traditional pay-TV spend will decline with a CAGR of –3.3% between 2022 and 2028. For the first time this year we also have sixteen unique country forecast reports that drill down into the detail for each Western European country in turn - who the major players are, what they are doing, and how that contributes to the trajectory for pay-TV and streaming video in Western Europe. INSIGHT: HOW BRAZIL’S TV 3.0 WILL HELP “CLOSE THE GAP” BETWEEN BROADCAST AND DIGITAL STREAMING We often talk about codecs, nitrates, NGA and HDR when we talk TV3.0, but TV 3.0 goes way beyond that, with a goal to change the TV consumer experience. Check this article, and I hope you will be convinced. I let Fabio Murra, world expert in TV3.0 outside Brazil, chime in.

"YouTube posted a platform-best share in February, capturing 9.3% of total TV usage" And if you add in the ~10M subscribers on YouTube TV, YouTube is dominating the TV screen. Pair that with Google's rich intent / search data, and you can target your specific customer in a much more affordable & efficient way. Far too often agencies & brands do not think of YouTube in the same category as TV or CTV. Unfortunately, that is a massive mistake. #youtube #tv #connectedtv #streaming
