☀️ It's been one year since we became formally certified as a #LivingWageEmployer! As a charity that's fundamentally concerned with improving quality of life, we have to acknowledge the importance of financial stability for the mental health and wellbeing of our employees. 🌱 The Living Wage Foundation has announced that the new Living Wage will be £12.60 (up 60p or 5%) with London Living Wage at £13.85 (up 70p or 5.3%). Missions are the key to succcessful change. A standard technique in business, they would be an overdue innovation in government where departmental fiefdoms often hinder change.
Labour’s five missions are a central pillar running through their policy interventions and political strategy. Davide Sands explores the significance of this 'mission-driven government' approach and what it means for businesses, industries and charities who want to engage with Labour. https://lnkd.in/eWxnMWKM

Ahead of the #SpringBudget tomorrow, we have written to the Chancellor and Shadow Treasury Leads to prioritise disabled people. This must include funding for #localgov to cover the full cost of the services they commission including National Living Wage increases. Without this, essential services will cease to exist. Labour’s remedy for scrapping the Winter fuel allowance – Buy a heat pump at £12,000! https://lnkd.in/eifd7YW3 They have not got a clue how to run a Country! They are the Party of the ‘working class whoever they are. They have been told many times what the actual remedy is but are so fixed with Dogma and in this case retribution they do not want to listen. We have the remedy to provide all those pensioners in fuel poverty and others with the cheapest most efficient and effective form of heating with just one of our brilliant infrared panels, for whichever room they spend most of their day. The £295 million in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for 2024/5 could be used a lot more beneficially by providing each poverty-stricken pensioner with one of our infrared panels costing £300 each on average. That would mean that they will be able to heat their main sitting room for around £1.10 a day over 213 days of Winter. All the remedy needs is the willingness of Government to think straight with some intellectual input and the scrapping of the Winter fuel payment can be alleviated to a large extent. Charities who carp should do their job and help these people to actually get a result and not just say how sorry they are about the situation. I have in mind Age UK, Royal British Legion, Fuel Poverty Action and all the others who have been informed many times by me that there is a way out of this hideous situation in 2024/5. https://lnkd.in/eiKfDsGc

State subsidy of low pay is the conveniently hidden reality of the British economy... The recent announcement in the UK Budget of an increase to the National Living Wage has generated considerable comment from business owners unhappy at the prospect of increased wage costs. What is seldom mentioned is that low paid people often rely on benefits to make ends meet financially. The state (= taxpayer money) is having to step in to compensate for the low wages paid by employers. Ironic that the same owners who talk about entrepreneurship depend on old-fashioned socialism to subside their businesses! #economy #business #livingwage #minimumwage #costofliving https://lnkd.in/ejaVcjvt

Employment Allowance: Up to £5,000 Relief for UK Small Businesses: If you're a UK small business, charity, or community sports club and your employer's Class 1 National Insurance (NI) was less than £100,000 last year, you may qualify for Employment Allowance. This lets you reduce your current year’s NI bill by up to £5,000 through your payroll. If you have multiple payrolls, your combined NI must still be under £100,000, and you can only claim on one payroll. If your NI is below £45,000, you might also get Small Employers' Relief, which refunds 103% of parental leave pay. Employment Allowance is counted towards state aid limits for some sectors. #uktax #taxation #taxsavings #taxadvices #taxupdates #taxpayers #smallbusinessowners

Following Brexit and the UK exiting the European Union, all European Social Fund funding in the UK came to an end in December 2023. The UK Government introduced the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to replace the European Social Fund. The European Social Fund was previously exempt from VAT for vocational training for unemployed and economically inactive individuals. The UK Government has not yet updated this VAT exemption notice following the European Social Fund not existing in the UK. I am grateful to Rt Hon Sir Robert Buckland KBE KC MP for taking this issue up with HM Treasury. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund needs adding to Section 13.1 of VAT Notice 701/30 given that the #ukspf is a direct replacement for #esf. I am surprised that no local authority or combined authority has had the initiative to raise this before given that we’re 18 months into the UKSPF. There is so much variation in how public bodies are treating the UKSPF with VAT, which is painful for project beneficiaries. Hopefully this intervention will sort this out once and for all.
