As a lover of Highland hospitality, I'm thrilled to share this stunning table set up by Victoria Erasmus' team for our recent IoD Highlands & Islands event at Uilebheist Distillery Ness Bank. The evening, sponsored by Rathbones Investment Management International, focused on finding solutions for population decline and barriers to economic growth in our area. The Highlands and Islands region has tremendous potential for economic growth, built on the backs of SMEs and individual entrepreneurs who have invested everything in the future of our area. The Green Freeport and renewables sector offer job generation and a ripple effect that can benefit other ports in the region. However, exponential growth requires increased investment in housing and infrastructure. The business plan is in place, the potential apparent, but development funding must follow. With less than 10% of UK levelling up funds spent and capital from the UK Government taking too long to arrive, this once-in-a-generation opportunity for transformation risks being squandered. Let's seize this moment and ensure that the necessary investment is made to drive growth in the Highlands and Islands. Together, we can build a brighter future for our region. #publicprivatepartnership #transformationalgrowth #skills #people IoD Highlands & Islands IoD Scotland Highlands and Islands Enterprise Highland Council UK Government Scotland Catherine McWilliam Alison Wilson

Happy #worldcitiesday to those who celebrate! Great to team up with our colleagues from Centre for Cities for an event on the growing international influence of cities featuring Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE and Anna Lisa Boni as well as our very own Cllr Huw Thomas, leader of Cardiff City Council. A few takeaways from us: 1. Awareness of the power of cities is growing among national decision makers, but there is still some work to do, particularly on climate policy. 2. Nation's pledge but it is cities that often deliver. They are the places with the scale of population, business and expertise to really engage with the big issue. 3. Co-operation is in cities' DNA, it is our default and while we will always fight hard for urban issues, we understand the power of co-design with national Governments. Also, at Core Cities we rightly complain about national centralisation, but in Freetown, Mayor Aki-Sawyer doesn't even have the powers she needs to fix the pavements! 🤯 Watch the whole discussion - https://lnkd.in/enHMDhCG

I look forward to presenting at the New Zealand Association for Impact Assessment NZAIA conference in October. I will discuss how the concept of social capital can provide a different lens for understanding social impacts. Since social capital is inherently framed as capital, which provides future benefits and returns, it focuses attention on the benefits and importance of sociability, allowing for the evaluation of those factors that have the most impact on people and communities. #socialcapital #impactassessment
We are excited to announce that Tristan Claridge, President of the International Social Capital Association will be speaking at the NZAIA conference at Chateau on the Park - Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton on 22 October 2024 on connecting the challenges: new insights on #ImpactAssessment from a social capital perspective. 🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring Week in Martinique 🌟 I am delighted to share my experience representing Ocean of Knowledge Foundation Curaçao at the partnership building activity "Structures" organized by World Society Builders. This enriching event was held from February 3rd to 9th, 2024, on the vibrant Caribbean island of Martinique 🌴. 🌍 Joined by representatives from 18 different organizations across Caribbean islands and European nations, we engaged in a week filled with insightful exchanges and learning. Our discussions centered around environmental projects, with a strong emphasis on understanding and protecting delicate ecosystems unique to various geographical settings. 🌱 The sessions offered a deep dive into the Erasmus+ program's opportunities, catalyzing ideas for new environmental initiatives formatted into KA1, KA2, and ESC projects. The brainstorming sessions were particularly energizing, allowing us to explore innovative approaches to ecological challenges and reinforce our commitment to European Union values. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to World Society Builders for the invitation and the chance to contribute to such a transformative gathering. The connections forged and the ideas sparked in Martinique are stepping stones to future projects that aim to make a significant impact. 🐾 Exciting News: Based on the feedback from our young people in Curaçao, we are proud to have developed a youth exchange project titled "Tomorrow Lab: Activism." This initiative focuses on a pressing issue on our beautiful island—stray animals and their care. We look forward to hosting some fantastic individuals sent by our new partners to help make a significant difference in our community. 🔗 The significance of building partnerships was ever apparent during this event, and I am more committed than ever to advancing these collaborations. Together, we're crafting pathways to meaningful change, bridging continents and cultures with shared visions and goals. #OceanOfKnowledgeFoundationCuracao #ErasmusPlus #EnvironmentalConservation #PartnershipBuilding #SustainableDevelopment #EuropeanSolidarity #WorldSocietyBuilders #YouthExchange #AnimalCareActivism

📢 Don’t miss our new contribution in Dianoia! 📖 Together with my colleague, Maja Kerneža, we have written a contribution on the importance of integrating environmental topics and sustainable development into educational programs. The findings of our research highlight the need for greater integration of these subjects, especially at the elementary level, where early environmental education plays a key role in developing environmental awareness and responsibility. Key points of the research: 🌍 Environmental topics are insufficiently included in educational programs. 📚 Sustainable development should be systematically integrated as a key part of the educational process. 👩🏫 Future teachers, in particular, need more knowledge and skills to effectively teach these topics. If you're passionate about shaping future generations through sustainable education, this article is a must-read! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dcyrU_Wd #Education #SustainableDevelopment #EnvironmentalAwareness #EducationalPrograms #Dianoia #Collaboration

For fifteen years now, the AIVP has been promoting the Port Center concept, with the aim of introducing citizens to the complexity of today’s port and enabling them to express their ideas on future projects. Port-city governance is essentially multi-stakeholder. It is based on arrangements that are always different from one territory to another. In this session we will learn about innovative governance in port cities. We will also discuss new ways to valorize and showcase the port city culture. From festive programs to exhibitions by local artists, from heritage preservation and reuse to original shared tourism policies, there is a multiplicity of initiatives that port authorities and local authorities can take together in the cultural field. With the rise of industrial tourism, the idea of “experiencing the port from the inside” has never been so popular. 🗓 27 november 2024 - 14:00-17h30 📍 Lisbon (Portugal) ✅ Registration: https://swll.to/jGwtzjh 👉 https://swll.to/0JNv6T
