Today, Chris uses her knowledge and skills working in Marketing, PR, and Event Production on brands like Red Bull, Jack Daniel's, Travelpayouts, Sportfive. She is also the Founder of a Latina Travel Blog, Girl Takes Mundo 🌎✨ 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛 Thanks to the DMSF scholarship, I felt I had the support of an organization that believed in my potential and provided me with the tools to succeed during my formative years. I saw this even in simple aspects, like maintaining a minimum GPA to keep the scholarship. I found myself exceeding that goal even in my university years. I also gained valuable public speaking skills from the summer bridge program, where we practiced speaking eloquently and comfortably without filler words, addressing peers professionally. The habits instilled through DMSF shaped how I present myself today. Through the high standards DMSF set, I learned that I can rise to challenges when given adequate encouragement and resources. Meeting DMSF’s expectations taught me to believe in my own capabilities. I’m grateful for the work ethic and self-confidence DMSF fostered in me. 💙For you, what does it mean to be a Murphy Scholar? 💛 To me, being a Murphy Scholar means defying the odds through hard work and self-belief. It means pursuing excellence in education despite financial barriers or early academic struggles. When I failed first grade as an English language learner, it could have set the tone for low expectations seeming inevitable. Being a Murphy Scholar, I was able to continue to prove this simple concept, with the right resources and encouragement one can excel. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛Keep being yourself no matter what others think. ✨ Time Flies: A Year of Growth and Learning✨ I can hardly believe that it’s been almost a year since I started MSc Strategic Marketing at Cardiff Business School It feels like just yesterday that I was dreaming of getting into this prestigious institution, and now, in less than a month, I’ll be submitting the final year project. Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd was once a distant goal, a dream that seemed challenging yet exciting. When I received my acceptance letter, it was a moment of pure joy, and now, as I reflect on the journey, it’s incredible to see how far I’ve come. The past year has been a whirlwind of learning, growth, and experiences that have shaped me both personally and professionally. The final year project has been a true test of my skills, perseverance, and creativity. From brainstorming ideas to conducting research, and now, approaching the finish line. I’ve learned so much, not just about the subject matter, but also about myself. As I look ahead to the final submission, I feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia. It’s amazing to think that soon, I’ll be closing this chapter of my academic journey. But with that, I’m also eager to take on new challenges and continue growing in the world of business. As we count down to graduation, take a moment to meet @CornellDysonSchool’s Zoe Rich ‘24 🎓 Q: What will you always remember about your time at Cornell? A: What I will most remember about my time at Cornell is the people who made it so incredible. I was lucky enough to meet people from all different corners of Cornell, who have become my best friends. Along with this, my professors offered me so much support and guidance throughout my school career that will no doubt leave a lasting impact. Q: What is the most valuable thing you learned in your time at Cornell? A: The most valuable lesson I learned in my time at Cornell is to always be true to yourself, even if you feel that everyone else around you is doing something different. In my opinion, staying authentic to your values and beliefs is the most important thing you can do. Q: How will you use this lesson or knowledge in the future? ‘We don’t look at your A-levels or degree, but I can see here you went to the University of Oxbridge so you’re hired’ Whilst there’ll be a lot of ‘A-levels don’t matter’ drivel here today, the reality is it’s not that black and white. I agree principally they’re not everything. But if: GCSEs don’t matter A-levels don’t matter University doesn’t matter Your experience doesn’t matter Your family or your background doesn’t matter. Then what the f*k will matter. What matters most is your STORY. Which is unique to everyone. It’s more powerful. And more interesting. If you against all odds got A*A*A* through difficult life experiences, then that’s mega impactful. If you dropped out of college, skipped out of university and washed cars then built a business, that’s mega impactful. If you just about passed, but went backpacking for 6 months and learnt 3 languages along the way, that’s mega impactful. It’s about how you tell those stories that amount to whatever you achieved - however high or low those grades might be. YOUR story is far more interesting than any singular milestone or grade. But those milestones help craft YOUR story.
