Though a bit dated book , I had fun reading Hit Refresh - Satya Nadella over the weekend . This book is a genuine attempt by Satya Nadella to share this point of view on how large corporations ( Microsoft and others) eventually gets burgeoned with its own weight and how a fresh way of thinking and rediscovering the corporate soul together gives back returns way more than any tech / financial investment could. At a personal level his love of cricket , experiences across India ( North / South ) growing up , pull and push of intellectual / spiritual parenting, Immigrating to US and experiencing capitalism and his love for family felt like I was reading my own life backwards.. Leaders like Satya rising through the rank and file of Microsoft to the top position should be a reminder to every one that Success is not overnight .. success comes to ones who are life long learners and some one who can identify his purpose greater than him/herself in the journey.. I liked his focus on empathy to customers , employees and society in general and I feel that’s a very distinctive difference leaders can bring in today’s world . He also took the topic of AI , jobs replacement and the fear factor on their face value and told us that its only through technology diffusion ( adoption) and leveraging technology in a more wholesome way to enable local entrepreneurship can we avoid the impacts .. Overall a great read and I am sure that Satya being at the helm can be the best thing that might have happened to Microsoft for many years to come.. #goodread #hitrefresh #microsoft #notabot

Here’s something you don’t see every day... 🥁 Microsoft is back on top, and TECH isn’t the reason why. Ironically, they attribute their success to two factors: a growth mindset and empathy (which makes me so proud to say that I was once their employee 🙌🏼) My time at Microsoft was eye-opening. Every meeting started off with spotlighting our mission and big-picture goals. It wasn't all about coding or the next big tech breakthrough; it was about the heart, the drive, and the collective passion. Under Satya Nadella’s visionary helm, it’s clear: growth mindset and genuine empathy are what fuel real triumph, even with a 100k+ company like Microsoft. I caught a piece of wisdom from a tech piece from Inc. Magazine recently that struck a chord: "This psychological approach has broad implications for business success. Technology alone is not a panacea. Understanding human behavior, motivations, and the power of mindset can lead to more sustainable and profound success. It's the humans behind the tech that matter most. Microsoft's story under Nadella's leadership is a clarion call for integrating psychology into business strategies. As Microsoft continues to evolve under this psychological paradigm, it sets a new benchmark for what companies can achieve when they focus on the human element." And isn't that just the truth? Nadella’s Microsoft is a bold reminder for us to weave psychology into our business playbook. It’s the human touch, the empathy, the getting each other - these are what change the game. In an era dazzled by AI and tech-speak, let's not lose sight of what's truly important, and that which allows us to stand out - our humanity. The power to connect, get, and motivate is what transforms businesses from good to legendary. It's about empathy, mindset, and living our mission—not just buzzwords, but the foundation of real success. Time to champion these values, don’t you think? #microsoft #leadership #careeradvice #entrepreneurship #personalbranding #marketing

When Satya Nadella took over as CEO of Microsoft in 2014, he faced the monumental task of revitalizing a company that many considered past its prime. Under his leadership, Microsoft transformed from a traditional software giant into a leader in cloud computing, AI, and innovative technologies. How did he do it? By embracing change, fostering a growth mindset, and prioritizing empathy and collaboration. In today’s changing world, staying relevant is both an art and a necessity. Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve come to understand the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. Embracing Growth: The Key to Unlocking Potential 🚀 Real-life example: Satya Nadella’s Microsoft When Satya Nadella became CEO in 2014, Microsoft was valued at about $314 billion. Fast forward to today, and it’s a tech titan worth over $3 trillion. But how did he do it? 🔹 Cultural Shift: Nadella moved Microsoft from a “know-it-all” to a “learn-it-all” culture, emphasizing empathy, empowerment, and growth. This wasn’t just about being nice; it was strategic, fostering innovation and collaboration. 🔹 Strategic Focus: He doubled down on cloud computing and AI, transforming Azure into a leading enterprise cloud service. His strategic investments, including a significant partnership with OpenAI, positioned Microsoft at the forefront of generative AI technology. 🔹 Empowering Employees: Nadella encouraged employees to collaborate and learn from each other, shifting the evaluation metrics to include how much they’ve helped their peers. 🌟 Takeaway: Nadella’s story teaches us that leadership is not just about vision but also about creating an environment where everyone can contribute to that vision. As professionals, we can apply this by fostering a culture of learning and collaboration in our own careers. Let’s be “learn-it-alls” together and unlock our full potential. #Leadership #Innovation #Microsoft #SatyaNadella #GrowthMindset #learnwithkaran

Microsoft's meteoric rise to become the world's most valuable company, surpassing even tech giant Apple, is a testament to the transformative power of a growth mindset. Under the leadership of CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft underwent a cultural shift from a traditional "know-it-all" mentality to a dynamic "learn-it-all" ethos. Inspired by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck's book "Mindset," Nadella instilled a belief that intelligence and talent can be cultivated through continuous learning and development. By prioritizing skill enhancement, Microsoft empowers its employees to embrace a growth mindset, encouraging them to constantly seek new knowledge and skills. Quarterly Learning Days provide dedicated time for employees to explore their interests and expand their expertise, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Moreover, Microsoft leverages data-driven support through analytics and artificial intelligence to enhance employee performance and decision-making. By harnessing the power of technology, the company ensures that its workforce remains agile, productive, and adaptable in an ever-evolving landscape. This holistic approach to personal and professional development not only bridges the gap between senior and junior employees but also fuels Microsoft's long-term success. By embracing progress, continuous learning, and a growth mindset, Microsoft sets a powerful example of how a company can thrive by empowering its workforce to unlock their full potential.

On the "growth mindset". "At the core of Microsoft, a three-trillion-dollar hardware and software company, lies a kind of social poison — an ill-defined, cult-like pseudo-scientific concept called 'The Growth Mindset" that drives company decision-making in everything from how products are sold, to how your on-the-job performance is judged." "Mindset theory itself is incredibly controversial for a number of reasons, chief of which is that nobody can seem to reliably replicate the results of Dweck's academic work. For the most part, research into mindset theory has been focused on children, with the idea that if we believe we can learn more we can learn more, and that by simply thinking and trying harder, anything is possible." https://lnkd.in/dziRpABK
