Disruptive transformation: this phrase caught my attention. In this season of another layoff, I’ve had to disrupt a few things like my way of thinking. I’ve had to (or at least TRY to): Reshape: my thoughts/perspective of the layoff. It is a gift of time I wouldn’t otherwise have if I was currently working. Tomorrow is not promised so to spend it at home with my husband (who works from home) and our cats means a lot to me. I also needed rest and got it. Redirect: my path. Try a different direction since the road I was on had a closure. Learn a new skill that excites and motivates me, like making these videos. Reinvent: myself and career. Along the same lines as redirecting, if I could only succeed, who would I be? What would I do? Oh, the possibilities! Being laid off was not what I wanted, but it’s what I got. And it’s just what I needed.

First she got made redundant, then they gave her a promotion. The promotion came on the 7th day of her layoff. She gets called into the Vice President's office: "Rachel, turns out you're a real asset to our team. The consultant running the layoffs didn't know this. We'd like to offer you a promotion." She politely declined the offer. 3 days later the President at the company wants to have coffee with her: "We can make you a people leader and bump your salary 25% + add a generous bonus." She wasn't interested in more money or job titles. In summary, why did it take a layoff to trigger these important conversations about her career? Why didn't they already value her? And why didn't the leadership team know she was a high performer with massive career potential? The best leaders know their teams. And they know each member's value. Agree?

Finding Clarity After a Layoff: Mapping Your Next Move 💔 Layoffs can feel like a personal rejection, a total upending of your identity and plans. But they can also be a catalyst for clarity and new beginnings. When I was laid off, I was lost. I had tied so much of my self-worth to my job title. Losing it felt like losing myself. 😞 But in the stillness that followed, I found space for reflection. What did I really want from my career? What truly mattered to me? 🤔 I started mapping out my skills, my passions, my values. I reached out to my network for perspective and leads. Slowly, a new path started to take shape. 🗺️ A layoff is not a reflection of your worth. It's a redirection, a chance to reassess and realign. Use the time for self-discovery and strategic exploration. 🔍 💡 Clarity often comes from chaos. A layoff can be the jolt you need to map out a more authentic, fulfilling career path. Trust the journey. #layoffrecovery #joblosstogrowth #careertransition #careerscafe

Today, I found myself tucked away in an empty cubicle that was once someone’s workspace during layoff notification meetings at a manufacturing facility preparing to close. As the morning progressed, I sat with numb, shocked people, wondering what they will do next. All the memories (and a few tears) of the layoffs I managed 14, 15, and 16 years ago came flooding back. I urge everyone who works for a company—small or large, public or private—to manage their career just like a CEO manages a business. Know YOUR value. Understand YOUR brand. Highlight YOUR accomplishments. Build STRONG marketing materials. And invest in your network; it = YOUR net worth when a layoff comes your way ❤️

💔 Layoffs are tough. There’s no sugarcoating it. 💔 In July 2023, I was laid off after pouring my whole self into my position and company. It was devastating. I ended up taking a job as an STNA just to get by while facing one of the darkest bouts of depression I’ve ever experienced. I didn’t find employment in the space I wanted, but I had to make it work. And let me be clear: I’m not here to promote toxic positivity. Some of you may not see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I completely get that. It’s okay to not feel okay right now. This journey is hard, and it’s perfectly valid if you don’t have it all figured out. But here’s the thing: it’s not the end of your story—just like it wasn’t the end of mine. I eventually found my way back into Talent Acquisition, and while it wasn’t easy, I came out stronger for it. You are not your job title. You are the sum of your skills, your resilience, your passion, and your ability to rise again. It might not feel like it now, but this is just one chapter of your career story, and the next one could be your most exciting yet. So if you're reading this and feeling lost, I want you to know that your feelings are valid, but also that you can get through this. You don’t have to be optimistic right now to keep moving forward. Opportunities are waiting, and there are people rooting for you—myself included. 💪 #YouGotThis #Resilience #StrongerTogether #NewBeginnings #GrowthMindset
