The #World Gives Back, But Not Always the Same Way: Role of #Culture in #Donation Decisions - Why & How? #Culture is a powerful force that shapes our values, beliefs, & even our financial decisions. It also plays a massive role in shaping our philanthropic decisions, from the causes we choose to the way we #donate. Have you ever wondered why & how people donate? Our backgrounds, beliefs, & traditions invisibly influence our #philanthropy. Culture plays a much bigger role than you might think in forming our #giving habits! For instance, some cultures emphasize familial obligation, leading to #donations that directly support relatives. Others focus on social duty, encouraging contributions to #community initiatives. Here's a glimpse into how culture impacts #charity: - => Values & Beliefs: Different cultures emphasize distinct values like collectivism, individualism, or reciprocity. These influence the types of causes that resonate with us (e.g., education for a collectivist culture, self-sufficiency for an individualist one). #selflessservice => Family Traditions: Growing up in a household that prioritizes giving back can lead to a lifelong commitment to philanthropy. #familyvalues => Social Norms: In "tight cultures" with strong social pressure, people might donate out of a sense of duty being more responsive to appeals highlighting social expectations of giving. Conversely, "loose cultures" might be more motivated by personal connections to the cause. #culturaldifferences => Religious Beliefs: Many religions encourage charity as a core principle, emphasize helping those in need, influencing a strong giving ethic within religious communities. towards causes aligned with those. #faithbased => Donation Methods: The "preferred" giving methods differ too. In some cultures, cash might be king, while others may be more comfortable with online platforms. #digitaldonations What are your thoughts? How has your cultural background influenced your giving decisions? Share your experiences & #views in the comments! India's philanthropy scene is experiencing a surge in collaboration, with the number of "philanthropic collaboratives" nearly tripling in just four years, according to a Bridgespan article titled "The Growing Momentum Behind Philanthropic Collaboratives in India." Originally formed to tackle COVID-19 relief efforts, these groups are now tackling bigger, long-term social and environmental issues. They work in three key ways: strengthening existing organizations, attracting more funding, and directly implementing programs. However, the article identifies a lack of capacity within backbone organizations, which are critical for collaboration success. Therefore, investing in capacity building is seen as essential. We hope that with time, such studies create more awareness among donors for funding capacity-building initiatives for nonprofits. The growing momentum behind these collaboratives indicates that capacity building will soon become non-negotiable, and calls for more services and resources to aid this. . . #CapacityBuilding #NGOImpact #NonProfitLife #DonorSupport #EmpowerCommunities #Philanthropy #SustainableDevelopment #GivingBack #CommunityDevelopment #SocialChange #CharityWork #VolunteerImpact #Fundraising #NonProfitOrganizations #SupportNGOs #own2feet #own2feetngo #own2feetassociation

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted about my philanthropy, so I thought that I would drop some lines here just to update you all on things and to ask you (politely) to continue to help support the causes that I am focussing on, both for my 70th birthday cause awareness and fundraising campaign as well as independently through Lordian Philanthropy (https://lnkd.in/ehKRurqb). A career path I barely talk about Let’s sort this topic out today!!! As a peace advocate, I’ve noticed the wrong use of these particular words, and yes!! we would know the differences between them today… The word Foundation, NGO’s, and NGI. They are non-profit organizations with the sole aim of making an impact, however, they are being used wrongly 😫. NGOs have a broad range of purposes, from social and environmental causes to advocacy. NGOs are/should be within the confined of the SDGs of the UN. Their funding is usually from donations, grants, and fundraising. So if you consistently help women, children, men, those with trauma, those with disabilities, etc, what you have is an NGO, not a foundation. Abike Foundation 🌚🌚 please go and change your name🙃. NGO names could be like Save the Child, Lifting Hands, Climate Avengers, etc.. Foundation primarily focuses on providing grants to other organizations(NGO’s) or individuals working toward specific goals. Foundations are grant givers, though some foundations may be involved in advocacy. Their funding is usually from a single donor, like a philanthropist. The foundation name could be like Bill Gate Foundation and the likes of them…. Lastly, NGI, Non-Governmental Initiatives, it’s also a non-profit organization and also with the sole aim of making a positive impact but their activities are always once a year at most twice!! This is usually individual-based and could be Corporate sometimes. Their activities are usually around giving back to the societies when they have a special event like birthdays especially! and for some during festive periods. This particular set also thinks they are a Foundation😀, I believe you know better now😀. Did you know the difference between these three concepts before? Let me know in the comments!! #peaceadvocate #Day2of30dayslinkedInchallenge

🌍✨ **The International Day of Charity: Beyond the Act of Giving** ✨🌍 Today, we commemorate The International Day of Charity, a day established to not only celebrate the generous acts of giving but to spark meaningful conversations around why philanthropy, volunteerism, and compassion are essential threads in the fabric of our global community. Charity is more than just reaching into our pockets; it’s about cultivating an ethos of empathy, solidarity, and action. This day urges us to think critically about the impact we can have, individually and collectively. 🧐 **Thought-provoking Questions to Mull Over:** 1. **The Ripple Effect**: How can small acts of kindness create larger waves of change in society? Have you ever witnessed or been part of a ripple effect? Share your stories! 2. **Philanthropy Beyond Money**: In what non-monetary ways can we contribute to charitable causes? Think in terms of time, skills, advocacy, etc. 3. **CSR and Corporations**: How can businesses integrate sustainable charity initiatives into their corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts beyond just writing checks? 4. **Volunteering and Identity**: What role has volunteerism played in shaping your personal identity and worldview? How has it changed your perspectives on global issues? 5. **Long-Term vs. Short-Term Aid**: While immediate relief is crucial, how can charity efforts be structured to create enduring, positive impacts? Is there a balance between addressing urgent needs and fostering long-term solutions? 6. **Charity vs. Social Justice**: How do we discern the fine line between charity and perpetuating dependency? Should our focus shift towards systemic change and social justice, and how can these approaches intersect? As we engage in dialogue on this day, let’s challenge ourselves to think beyond the surface. Let’s envision charity not just as a momentary act but as an integral pathway towards building more inclusive, resilient, and compassionate societies. 👇 **Share your thoughts, stories, and insights below! How has charity impacted your life, and how do you think we can all make a bigger difference?** 🌱✨ #InternationalDayOfCharity #GlobalSolidarity #Philanthropy #Volunteerism #EmpathyInAction #SocialChange

Few acts are as transformative as giving. It’s a simple yet profound gesture that has the power to uplift, inspire, and change lives. Here are some of the emotions people experience when they give: ⭐️Joy: Giving to those in need often evokes feelings of joy and happiness, knowing that your contribution is making a positive impact on someone else’s life. ⭐️Fulfilment: There is a deep sense of fulfilment that accompanies knowing you’ve made a meaningful difference in someone else’s life. ⭐️Gratitude: Giving often fosters feelings of gratitude, both from the recipients who benefit from your generosity and from within yourself as you reflect on the blessings in your own life. ⭐️Empowerment: Knowing that your donation has the power to empower others, whether by providing access to education, healthcare, or basic necessities, can be incredibly empowering. ⭐️Connection: Giving can also foster a sense of connection and unity with others, as you join together with like-minded individuals to support a common cause and create positive change in the world. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to create ripples of positive change that extend far beyond what we can imagine. Let’s open our hearts and extend our hands to those in need. Let’s strive to give more, love more, and uplift more, ensuring that no one is left behind in our shared journey of compassion and kindness. #giving #showkindness #philanthropy #charity #socialimpact #donation #cainafrica
