❓ Should your #presales / #salesengineering team do anything but presales? Specialization is GREAT... but it comes with drawbacks: 1️⃣ If you are in a smaller company, you may not be able to afford that level of specialization. 2️⃣ You may also want to take advantage of natural peaks and ebbs in your sales cycle. See, in #sales, there are periods of intense activity. They tend to occur toward the end of quarters and fiscal years. During that time, you will need a lot of presales. Immediately after? The need for presales may go into a lull as Sales are repopulating the pipeline. And, when do delivery activities tend to peak? Right after sales rushes. Convenient! 3️⃣ Finally, there is value for a sales engineer to be a practitioner of the technology they sell. That enables them to speak from a place of knowledge that makes them more convincing. This is not to say there are no drawbacks to the lack of specialization. You may want to level the peaks and ebbs in your sales process. Some people are better at presales than deliveries, and vice-versa. All I am saying is that the optimal answer is conditioned by the situation you are in. Do you agree?
