I'm delighted to see the Cap and Floor-based Support Scheme for Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) finally approved by the UK Government. Back in February at Energy Storage Summit in London, this was a hot topic with the consultation process beginning, so it's great that we have taken a step forward! (This extract below was from my Key Takeaways article after the event - see comments) I've long been pushing for Long Duration Energy Storage support as these technologies are vital, if we want to help manage increases volatility of a growing renewables capacity - but also pass on savings to households across the country! This new cap and floor scheme is designed to remove some of the investment barriers that hindered LDES before, particularly given the large upfront CAPEX involved. Good news for Pumped Hydro in particular, but also the wonderful innovators in areas like Flow Batteries, Compressed Air, and Thermal Storage! Triangle Energy (Global) Ltd - TEG managing director Conrad Todd joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss the company’s agreement of a revised settlement timeframe for the sale of the Arrowsmith land and facilities to Pilot Energy Limited (ASX:PGY) Ltd as part of the Cliff Head Joint Venture (CHJV) Sale and Purchase (S&P) Deed. On the eleventh of this month, both companies agreed to extend the schedule for the first stage of the transaction, allowing additional time to finalise the transfer. Under the updated agreement, Pilot Energy will make staged payments totalling $6.5 million to Triangle. This includes $4.5 million for Arrowsmith, with $400,000 due on October 18, 2024, and $4.1 million plus interest on November 29, 2024, increasing to $5 million if delayed further. Promising announcement for growth of CapturePoint LLC’s Central Louisiana Regional Carbon Storage Hub (CENLA Hub) through a partnership with Energy Transfer. The CENLA Hub "is one of the largest onshore deep underground carbon storage centers under development in the United States with the capacity to permanently secure millions of tons of CO2 annually that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere."
