For people with Parkinson’s, challenges like freezing, balance issues, and difficulty initiating movement can create major barriers to mobility. Our Parkinson’s Walking Glasses help wearers maintain momentum and avoid getting “stuck” in place, while improving posture, balance, and step consistency, giving users more confidence and control over their movement. #VisualCueing #ParkinsonsSupport #Mobility #StrydAR #ParkinsonsWalkingGlasses

For people with Parkinson’s, freezing of gait can make even short walks feel overwhelming. Parkinson’s affects the brain’s ability to coordinate automatic movements, such as walking. However, many people with Parkinson’s retain the ability to perform goal-directed movements when prompted. StrydAR Glasses project a visual cue into the wearer’s field of vision which breaks freezing by prompting the brain to initiate movement, encouraging consistent strides and reducing shuffling. The benefits include: 🟢 Reduced risk of falls and improved safety. 🟢 Increased confidence in movement, making activities like walking more enjoyable. 🟢 Empowers individuals to regain independence and mobility. Send us a message if you’d like to learn more about the benefits of Parkinson’s Walking Glasses. #Parkinsons #ParkinsonsWalkingGlasses #ParkinsonsSupport #MobilityAid #VisualCueing

One more type of distracted driving is cognitive distractions, or anything that causes your brain to lose focus on driving. This can look like road rage, day dreaming, chatting handsfree on the phone, or thinking about an argument you had before your drive. Before beginning to drive, make sure you are in a good headspace to focus on the task at hand. #DontDriveDistracted #ICSADistractedDrivingWeek2024

Looking for ways to stay active and keep doing the things you love? Here’s a breakdown of some mobility devices that can help: Canes: Provide extra support and improve balance while walking. Choose an adjustable one if you wear different shoes. Make sure it reaches your wrist crease for optimal height. Hold it with the opposite hand of the weaker side. Take stairs with your good foot first, followed by the cane and then the other foot. Mobility Scooters: Maintain your independence! Consider a scooter if you need it. Think about where you’ll use it, how it maneuvers indoors, comfort level, and weight capacity (light vs heavy-duty). Walkers: Standard walkers offer stability. Adjust the height to fit you, and consider width options. Rollator walkers with wheels and brakes are a good choice if lifting a walker is difficult. Wheelchairs: Wheelchairs can greatly improve independence for those with limited mobility. Don’t hesitate to use one! Prioritize getting the right size and ensuring it’s comfortable. Remember, these devices can help you stay active and enhance your quality of life! Explore the options and find what works best for you! We often hear from our patients with back pain that they are worried about taking long car journeys. They know that their back pain will worsen, they'll be uncomfortable, even unable to continue the journey. Some will not bother at all.... but it does have to be that way. There are plenty of ways to make car journeys more comfortable and manageable, even with back pain! Here are a few tips we recommend: 1⃣ Before you set off, set up your seating position as best you can, with proper support for your back. Experiment with seat adjustments, including lumbar support settings, to find what is most comfortable for you. 2⃣ If you're the driver, adjust your mirrors and steering wheel so that you are not over-reaching or straining. Just imagine you're sitting at your desk at work and you want everything to be ergonomically correct. 3⃣ Consider investing in a high-quality seat wedge or cushion that will provide extra support whilst you're driving and take the strain off your back. 4️⃣ Plan for frequent rest stops to stretch your legs and relieve pressure on your back. 5️⃣ Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and keep your muscles and joints lubricated. If you're experiencing persistent discomfort and want to enjoy your summer travels, contact us today to find out how we can help! Many of us clock up hours behind the wheel during the holiday season, only to end up with back, neck, or shoulder pain. But with the right setup, your car seat can work with your body, rather than against it. Here are three quick fixes you can make today to improve your driving posture: - Avoid an upright 90° backrest Sitting perfectly upright may seem like a good idea, but it likely leads to slumping after a while—causing tension in your neck and upper back. Instead, relax your backrest by 5–10°, so you feel supported without straining. - Don’t push your backside too far back in the seat Scooting too far back forces your spine to overextend and will force you to slump forward over time. Shuffle forward just a bit to relax your spine and allow your upper back to rest comfortably against the seat. - Steering wheel placement matters Adjust your steering wheel to suit. You may find the most comfortable position for your arms so you are not over-stretching means your legs are too bent. And vice versa if your legs are in the most comfortable position from the pedals you are overstretching to the steering wheel. Alternate your position periodically to distribute the load on your muscles and joints. Remember, discomfort is your body's way of saying something needs to change. Make small adjustments, take breaks, and move your body when needed. Next week, we’ll be talking about how your grip on the wheel impacts tension in your neck and shoulders. Stay tuned! #DrivingComfort #HolidayTips #HealthyPosture #Backpain #Driving
