The Story Behind the Nordic-Iberian Doctoral Workshop on Business Economics:
It all started in 2023, during an inspiring course on Empirical Corporate Finance at Aalto University in Finland, where a group of doctorate students David Cabreros, Tomi Soininen and Mikkel Riiser met. Encouraged by their instructor, the renowned Renee Adams, they began to connect, realizing that something greater could come from their collaboration. What began as casual conversations soon evolved into a bigger idea—a platform where Nordic and Iberian universities could unite to foster academic exchange.
Originally, the idea was to hold a small seminar at the Universidad de Valladolid (Spain). However, as their excitement grew, so did the ambition. They envisioned a broader workshop that would offer early-stage researchers an opportunity to share their work, receive feedback, and build connections across borders.
By the start of the new academic year in September 2023, planning for the first workshop was underway. What seemed ambitious at first gained traction as their supervisors rallied behind them, helping to secure funding and develop the Call for Papers. Despite being new to organizing such events, their determination and improvisation paid off.
The first edition, held in April 2024 in Valladolid, was a success (see photos in our previous post). It provided young researchers with a warm, welcoming environment to present their ideas, explore collaborations, and engage in meaningful discussions. The event was not just about sharing research—it was about building a community.
Now, we are excited to announce that the Call for Papers is open until January 15th, 2025, for the 2nd edition, which will take place on the 24th and 25th May 2025 at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
If you’re a young researcher, this is your chance to expand your network and share your work in a collaborative space.
And if you’re a senior researcher, we invite you to participate in our Research Pitch Session—designed to foster new collaborations by pitching your early-stage ideas and finding potential co-authors across international and interdisciplinary networks.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of something bigger—because we believe in empowering progress through collaboration.
🌍 Submit your paper until 15th January 2025 and stay tuned for more information! 🌍

4moThanks for the insightful post! My exprience says breaching through the gatekeepers of the UT Dallas Journals needs more than being innovative, tackling real world problems with rigorous methodologies. Suppose marketing is a huge ceremony, I think the researcher must be at the right table to get know the wicked problems that thought leaders are discussing. That is why I am applying for your school despite having an INFORMS group decision making paper in hand!
