Hey, friends. Grab a seat and have a coffee. Or tea. We need to address an elephant in the room. We know that there have been some changes proposed that could very negatively affect your ability to stay solvent or keep your doors open. We saw the proposed list and know a lot of our friends are on it. We hope there's a change of heart. But whether it happens or doesn't (or partially happens), we are here to help you. If you have an account with us, paid or otherwise, you can post any and all volunteer needs with us. It costs nothing but a few minutes of your time. We even have office hours with Genevieve if you are having trouble with the technology. (Wednesdays from 1-3) If the outcome either way means you need more volunteers, that is why we exist. Registered agencies also have access to our volunteer lists. There's nearly 1500 people signed up to volunteer through us. See the chart! That volunteer that you've been searching high and low for has been drumming their fingers, waiting for you to contact them. You can do that! There is a lot going on out in the world, both inside our borders and outside. But we all win when we work together. Remember the US Army motto, TEAM. Together, Everyone Achieves More. Let us help you Achieve More. Either register your agency or sign in and peruse the lists for your perfect volunteer. https://buff.ly/48p5ewI #TimeSaving #NonprofitLife #FundingProblems #KeepCalmAndCarryOn

Have you seen this powerful short film by Vodafone which addresses the issue of harmful messages being encountered by boys online? We find that this is often one of the biggest concerns amongst parents, carers, guardians and teachers. Boys today are constantly exposed to a stream of online influences telling them to grow bigger muscles, make more money and to view and treat women in negative and harmful ways... The pressure to conform to these prescriptive and often unrealistic ideals can take a toll on boys' mental health and contribute to issues like low self-esteem, body image dissatisfaction, and unhealthy attitudes towards relationships and gender dynamics. To mark #SaferInternetDay, vodafone's latest campaign ‘The Rise of the Aggro-rithm’ reveals the impact these algorithms are really having on the UK’s tween and teen boys. Together with children’s charity NSPCC, they have released a free online safety toolkit to help families have conversations about navigating the ever-evolving online world. Lets us know what you think about the video below! ⬇ or visit our website for more information on working with, and supporting boys: www.beyondequality.org
Did you know boys aged 11 – 14 are being exposed to harmful content in as little as 60 seconds due to intelligent online algorithms? Sometimes we get asked questions about who we are, what we do, and why we do it. These questions, and more, are all skillfully answered on our FAQ page. Let's be clear. We love talking about ourselves, but sometimes, it's just easier for you to peruse this page and see if we've covered your inquiry. Things like, does it cost to use the platform? (For volunteers? Never! For groups? It depends.) Can I volunteer if I don't live in Peterborough? (Yes! If you live close or cottage in the area, come on out!) Some very specific questions can be answered in the handy dropdown menus. Will we let you collaborate with other groups? Definitely. We're all about the groupwork for good. Can my child track their volunteer hours through the site? Not yet. It's up to their preferred organization to count the hours and sign the paperwork. Questions that we can't answer usually have to do with waits for Police Records Checks or why Agency X hasn't gotten back to you about your application. These things are out of our hands, so you may need to follow up yourselves. If you can't find what you need to know, we're more than happy for you to hit us up via the contact button or in a comment on our social media. But please note that 24/25 of us are volunteers, so it may be a wait getting an answer. And if your only question is "What's with all the alpacas?", the answer is simple. Algorithm and adorability. All these questions and more (except the alpaca one) are here: https://buff.ly/45NOywE #FAQ #NonprofitLife #AskUs #CommunityBuilding #CoolVolunteerAutumn

The dark side of social media as told by someone who knows social media: The platforms want you (and your kids) to stay on them for as long as possible. Ever been scrolling TikTok, looked up and suddenly notice 4 hours have gone by? Yeah, that's by design. They do this by gradually, subtely feeding you content they think you'll like, which is most of the time guided by content you've interracted with in the past. The more you interact with certain content (which could just be by watching it past a certain point, it doesn't necessarily have to be a like, share, or comment), the more of that kind of content you'll see until it gradually shows you more and more extreme versions of it. A lot of content creators on these platforms know this and know that the best way to reach the biggest possible audience is by sharing inflammatory stuff. Now imagine you're a teenage boy who likes a "parking fails" video which leads to gradually being shown more and more misogynistic views until your feed is entirely made up of them. Or perhaps you're a teenage girl who likes a "healthy" recipe video and eventually ends up with a feed telling you what to eat, how much, and how your body should look. There are tools you can use as parents provided by the platforms, which can ensure your children aren't shown certain things. But the best thing to do is (as unpopular as I'm sure this will make you) periodically having a scroll on the platforms on their phone because then you'll see the content they're seeing. #SocialMedia #SaferInternet

#GivingTuesday is one week away, and I’m deep in the fine-tuning phase of our email appeal. Inspirational opener? Check. Authentic and meaningful plea? Check. Call to action that says “support us” without screaming “SUPPORT US”? Triple check. But let’s be honest: Giving Tuesday is a full-on inbox takeover. Nonprofits everywhere are sending everyone in their database a heartfelt, urgent, “we’re still here doing the work” email. My biggest worry isn’t about how much we’ll raise (okay, it is... but really), it’s the dreaded unsubscribe. Will ours be the email that makes someone decide they’ve had enough and hit opt-out for good? So here’s my plea to anyone who supports nonprofits: don’t unsubscribe next Tuesday. You signed up because you care about the work these organizations are doing in your community. That connection? It’s what makes the work possible. We’ll try not to annoy you too much in the process. #NonprofitLife #SupportTheArts

Does it ever feel like parts of your community are always an arm's length away? Recently, I've posted about how internal words and phrases and misconceptions about how you work can keep people from truly connecting with what you do and how Strategic Listening can help. Another way people may not be connecting to your work are through barriers. Barriers can be things like (these are actual barriers from my clients); 👩⚖️ I don't have the authority to make that decision and don't know to sell it to someone else ⏲ The time commitment to fill out this form is too much for the value it would bring me 📣 This isn't for me, it seems like you are talking to someone else These barriers keep people from making donations, completing your programs, and following your calls to action. The good news is you can discover these barriers, large and small, and remove them. It's like removing the rocks and pebbles that make a path difficult to walk down. Listening helps not only uncover those barriers but also gives you the specifics around them so you can make direct changes to remove them, helping your community work WITH you. Things like - designing tools to help others sell rather than sell to them, refining forms to make them more manageable, and creating communications that look and feel like your audience segments. Do you know what barriers your community is struggling with?

🌍✨ GivingTuesday isn’t just about raising money — it’s about celebrating generosity in every form! As you plan for December 3rd, here are some inspiring ways to engage your community: 1. Highlight your impact by celebrating your incredible volunteers, staff, and donors. Put a face to your organization and humanize the mission you’re driving forward. 2. Ask your community what your mission means to them. Increase social engagement, gather valuable feedback, and create meaningful content inspired by their responses. 3. Host a simple community-building event to strengthen relationships IRL. A local park or library meet-up can create connections that last well beyond GivingTuesday. How are you planning to celebrate the world’s biggest day for generosity? Let us know! ⬇️ #GivingTuesdaycampaign #GivingTuesday #DoGood
