In Brazil, these colonial logics are perpetuated through racism, sexism and structural discrimination. Democracy remains a dynamic and evolving system, continually striving to balance the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. While it is not without flaws, its emphasis on popular sovereignty and the protection of individual rights makes it a compelling model for governance. The strength of a democracy lies in its ability to adapt and respond to the needs and aspirations of its people. In the words of the late Nigerian novelist and Poet Chinua Achebe “A functioning and robust democracy requires a healthy, educated, participatory followership, and an educated, morally grounded leadership”.
