While my posts typically focus on business insights, tonight I feel compelled to step back and reflect on something deeper that has shaped my worldview. As a Navy ROTC student in the early 1980s, I was deeply moved by Voltaire's principle: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." This wasn't just a quote to memorize—it became a core belief that guided my service. Today, as I watch journalists worldwide risk their lives to bring us the truth, I'm reminded of why that commitment to protecting free speech and press freedom remains vital to our democracy. My military service taught me that the rights we often take for granted—including the right to a free press—require constant vigilance and protection. To all journalists who continue to seek and report the truth, often in challenging circumstances: Your work embodies the very freedoms I once swore to protect. #FreeSpeech #Journalism #Democracy #Leadership
