Leaders, I had so much fun being panelist for the Saint Ignatius College Prep Business Society on April 11. Our topic: The business landscape and artificial intelligence (AI). Great discussion with fellow panelists Chunka Mui (our fantastic moderator), Ashwin Devnani, Don Rescigno and Larry Weithers and great discussions after the panel the many attendees. We know AI is changing our work life and personal lives. It's both exciting and a bit scary. I walked away feeling better. There are a lot of good people out there who are asking the right questions. I saw evidence of leaders paying attention, ready to engage and keep each other in check. Don't Mess It Up Our moderator Chunka relayed to the group, what his young daughter told him when discussing how he works with leaders on the future. She looked at him and sincerely said to him "Don't mess it up." Let's all be #warmdemanders of each other when it comes to how we use AI in our organizations. There's a lot at stake, but we got this.

In October, I had the privilege of delivering an after dinner keynote at a GDS Group International CIO conference in Dublin on a topic that feels more urgent than ever: "Collapse or Catalyst - How AI-Enabled Organisations Can Shape the Future of a World on the Brink." We live in a time of profound transformation - a time when planetary health is under siege, exponential technologies are disrupting the fabric of society, and the Meta-Crisis is amplifying existential risks. Amidst this uncertainty, organisations and institutions face a pivotal question: ➡️ Will we perpetuate extractive systems that hasten societal collapse? ➡️ Or will we internalise the call to generate true value, enabling a flourishing humanity on a flourishing planet? In this talk, I explored: ✅ The role of AI and exponential technologies in addressing existential risks. ✅ The “meaning crisis” and why humanity needs a shared North Star. ✅ How organisations can embrace a mindset of long-term value creation to navigate uncertainty. ✅ The importance of orienting to the true value of human and planetary flourishing in this new era. I believe that AI-enabled organisations can be the catalyst for the change we need, but it requires us to shift our priorities, rethink our purpose, and align with what truly matters. 🎥 I’m excited to share the video of this keynote with you! Here are my takeaways from a recent video by The IT Media Group discussing the dynamics of law, ethics, and corporate culture in the context of #AIAdoption. I highly recommend watching this short video—it’s insightful and timely. 👉 Dominique Payette on ethical and legal frameworks: 1️⃣ AI governance intersects with other legislations, including Privacy, Intellectual Property, and Financial Institution regulations. 2️⃣ AI regulations can be principle-based or rule-based. Canada’s AI regulation, "AIDA," uses a principle-based approach, encouraging innovation. 👉 Jesslyn Dymond on ethical considerations and societal impact: 1️⃣ Trust is key to adopting AI responsibly. Organizations need to prioritize data ethics to earn public trust. 2️⃣ Innovation should be human-centric. This ensures that AI development aligns with societal values and expectations. 👉 Katrina Ingram on practical approaches and best practices: 1️⃣ AI does not inherently equate to ROI. Avoid the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) trap. 2️⃣ Ask, “Where does AI stand in my organization?” Identifying AI sources, including shadow AI, is crucial to assess and manage ethical risks.
