Founder of Flight Group: Flight Fund. Flight Studio. Thirdweb. The Diary Of A CEO.

This week on The Diary Of A CEO, I sit down with Dr. Martha Beck PhD - she holds three Harvard degrees in social science, is considered Oprah's life coach and is the woman Oprah called “one of the smartest women she knows.” Her life has been anything but ordinary. She was forced to face the trauma of sexual abuse at the hands of her father - one of the Mormon Church’s highest authorities. Martha shared with me how confronting her trauma and speaking the truth stopped her physical pain. In this conversation, we cover: - Why anxiety is often the root of our physical pain. - How our bodies expose lies when our minds can’t. - The moment she saw “the light” during surgery. - How she nearly died so she stopped lying? - Being labelled “worse than a murderer” for speaking her truth. and so much more! I first stumbbled across her on Andrew Huberman's podcast and I was blown away by Martha's ideas. In our conversation I was so curious about some of the tricks she uses to uncover how our bodies expose the lies our minds believe. By understanding the connection between the mind and body, we can learn to listen to anxiety as a signal, I'll probably never think of Anxiety in the same way. 🙃 Kinesiologic testing (that moment with the hand outstretched) is really fascinating, but there are a lot of limitations to it and you can also lie to yourself if you are not coherent with the truth within yourself. Yes, our mind and body are strongly connected, because the mind does not receive anything from outside by itself, but through signals from the body. And in the same way, the body does not interpret anything on its own, but the mind does.

I have to admit Steven that I was one of your 53% who hadn’t subscribed and I think I know why the number is that high. It’s not your content because your shows are incredible and I think this one particularly might change the life of a loved one who’s been dealing with anxiety for a lifetime. The two reasons I didn’t subscribe till today was whenever I see your show ad, it’s usually on LinkedIn. When I go to watch it, LinkedIn opens a window that lets me watch the show but it doesn’t open it in the YouTube app so when I try to subscribe it asks me to sign into my YouTube account and I don’t remember that password for the life of me. So today when you asked us to subscribe I remembered I couldn’t do it unless I was in the app so I hit that little button “open in app” first before hitting the subscribe button. So I’m happy to say I’m now a subscriber. The other reason I hadn’t is because I never thought you’d need subscribers because you’re like one of the biggest accounts I know of so thank you for asking and that teaches me that all you have to do is ask sometimes.

“The body express what the mind supress” this quote come up couple of weeks ago and simplifies a reality that is present, every day. The moment we accept and embrace is when real healing transcends. There are many different techniques, effective ones, available nowadays that helps us to rewire neuropathways and reduce or eliminate how we fell (aka =react). The event cannot be erased as its lived, but how we feel about is the game change.

I've been saying this a lot lately, but it's funny how things work out. With the proactive preventative health mission I am pursuing with my startup, I'm excited to watch the full YouTube video of this interview because the mind-body connection is also what I discuss with people when I'm out in the community. Another fun mind-body connection demo I've learned and shown others is; you can take any item (food, electronic, jewelry, anything, etc.) and place it against your abdomen. Then out loud verbally say, "this [item] is good for my body". And if you wait a minute or so, your body will naturally either lean away or towards the item. Wild. It's so crazy how intricate and honest the body can be in telling us what we really want but then we use our thinking minds to quite ingenuously trick ourselves to misinterpret our bodies.

Lies don’t just weigh on your mind - they crush your body. I’ve felt it firsthand. The stress of pretending, hiding, or holding back? It eats at you. Physically. Mentally. When I started being brutally honest, with others and myself - everything changed. Less stress. More clarity. More strength. Truth isn’t just freeing - It’s fuel Steven

I often feel this way when someone shouts, yells, or speaks rudely around me. As a child, whenever a mentor would get upset, I’d momentarily lose the ability to hold my pencil straight.. wasnt ever sure what was that about, now i know.
